I'm really sad I have to post a negative review but I was so disappointed with today's experience after I paid so much money for great getaway packages for both me and my mom. It was recently mother's day and my mom's birthday so I wanted to do something nice for her. She isn't from around here and came down to visit, so I booked great getaway packages for the both of us.
First of all, the destinations spa website says that lunch is provided in the package. I was gifted a package in 2022 and I did indeed get lunch during my service then. But today, we were never given the paper to fill out our lunch request. We got hungry and kind of uncomfortable because we didn't eat a whole lot for breakfast since we figured we would eat lunch at Destinations. Well my mom politely asked the desk about it and received a rude answer from who ever was up there, that it was an add on and her attitude implied that she couldn't be bothered about the inquiry. And then when I asked about it (I'm unsure if I asked the same receptionist my mom asked), I was told it was being "phased out." I think it was fair of us to be disappointed with not being provided lunch seeing as I received it in a past experience AND it is STILL listed on the website that it's included. Nor was I told when booking the service that it was no longer provided.
My mom got her mani/Pedi done first, and in-between those services and her facial and massage, they made her wait in the waiting room for about 40 minutes. I'm sorry but that wait in-between services is unacceptable. My mom was literally just sitting there waiting for her next service.
We both found the signature facial to be extremely lacking. All it is just a technician rubbing oils on your face for 50 minutes. Oh and by the way that service is $75 each! I could do that at home. There is nothing special about the signature facial, and compared to other facials I've had at different spas, downright disappointing.
The mani Pedi is ok. The seating could be more comfortable. In other spas I've been to, you're seated in a comfortable chair with a large foot bath that has jets and a whirlpool. But here, you're seated against the wall with some pillows, and your feet are in a relatively small basin with no jets.
Our actual nail job came out nicely though.
A redeeming quality were the massages. My mom said hers was very good, and I enjoyed mine as well.
Well there you have it. I'm not wealthy nor make a lot of money. I saved for months for this very pricey package so my mom and I could have a nice time together. And I walked away feeling so disappointed and downright embarrassed. I will be on the hunt for a new spa. Since Destinations won "best spa in Sumter" for both 2024 and 2025, I will probably be looking...
Read moreI recently visited Destinations Spa for a much-needed relaxation session with the hubs, and while the experience had its positive moments, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations.
Massage Quality: The therapist was friendly and seemed knowledgeable, but the massage itself was just average. I opted for a 60-minute Swedish massage, expecting a soothing and stress-relieving experience. While the pressure was fine, it felt more like a routine session rather than a personalized treatment. There were moments where the therapist seemed to rush through certain areas, and the overall flow of the massage lacked a sense of continuity That seemed shorter than a hands on 60.
Ambiance: The spa environment was clean and generally pleasant, but it didn't have that serene setting and I could occasionally hear noises from outside the room, which was a bit distracting and took away from the relaxation.
Customer Service: The staff at the front desk were polite and efficient, but the service didn’t go beyond the basics. There was no extra effort to make me feel special or pampered, which is something I value in a spa experience. While they got the job done, it felt more transactional than welcoming.
Value for Money: Considering the price, I expected a bit more from the experience. The massage was decent, but I felt it didn’t quite justify the cost. There are other places that offer similar services at a better value, with more attention to detail and a more immersive experience.
Overall Experience: Destinations Spa offers a standard massage service that’s fine for a quick stress relief, but it doesn’t stand out in any particular way. If you’re looking for a basic massage without any frills, it might be worth a visit. Overall, I’d rate it as a solid 3-star experience – okay, but with room...
Read moreMy experience with Destinations Spa was awful. Be mindful, this is all before making it to the appointment. I scheduled a couple's massage (moreso a sisterly massage/spa day before she leaves town). On the morning of the appointment (today), I received a call informing me that my sister and I could no longer receive services at the same time. I decided to just go forward with one service, and there was yet again another inconvenience (the originally scheduled time had to be moved down). I proceeded to ask why that was the case, and whoever I spoke to was VERY RUDE. She didn't care to give an explanation, her tone and attitude were impolite, and as I became frustrated, I took a moment of silence so that I too wouldn't be rude. During that moment of silence, she HUNG UP ON ME.
I'm very big on customer service, and Destinations Spa's customer service was TERRIBLE. If you are rude to potential customers on the phone, supporting your business is certainly NOT an option. I've never taken time out of my day to rate any business I've been to (whether the service was great or not), but because I was treated so poorly, a POOR rating and review should be given to this business as well.
I hope she reads this, learns from it, and treats her future...
