Let me start by stating I used to frequent this hotel, would use different sites for booking depending on the deal. This time I used Agoda, however something was not done right and I should have paid attention but I booked it for a day earlier than I needed it. Didn’t realize till the next day, so I call red roof was told exactly, “why did you use the site to book have you booked through us, we could have changed it. Agoda is not going to allow changes or cancellations.” So despite the warning I called them and spoke with a great rep who understood my issue and said she could cancel and give me a credit on my account to book the room for the correct date but she had to get an ok from the reps at red roof. Seeing the gentleman told me he would have moved the date if I booked through them, figured it would be no problem. I hold, the Agoda rep comes back and says they refused to allow the cancellation, nor would they adjust the date. She felt horrible and didn’t understand why they would do that, and neither did i. So I call red roof again same guy barks at me and says he can’t talk he is on the other line for an override. I call back 10 min later he insists on telling me nothing can be done. I mentioned more than 5 times they were trying to make it right all you had to do was allow them and I could be booking another room with them. Kept saying “we don’t want your money we don’t need it.” He calls his boss. His boss says why did I book through a website and not through them. I said again the site is trying to do right by me. It’s yall that are screwing me over. He said u reserved the room and never checked in which costed him a sell to another client. To some it may make sense but let’s really ask the question; if I booked through the hotel the night I booked was wrong and if could have been adjusted so costing them a sell wouldn’t have mattered to them in that aspect? What’s the difference in doing that when Agoda tried to do the right thing? Exactly no difference at all. The made extra money knowing damn well they had me over a barrel. They were spiteful, hateful, I hope they make a mistake one day and whoever it involves I hope they aren’t easy to understand or forgive. I’ll never give them another dime. And sometimes it’s a beautiful thing to have a local morning show in Sumter. Guess who is making the worst of the worst this week. Treat people the right way always. That’s the...
Read moreCame from DC to attend a family funeral. Got caught up in Hurricane Debby. Called ahead and got a quote that was the same as the price listed on Google. Once my husband and I arrived (2hrs later)with our kids and in-laws at (9pm) we were quoted a much higher price than given earlier. After agreeing to pay the new price but simply showing there was a different price still listed online, which we understood any changes because of the weather. My elderly Mom who wanted to pay for the rooms was told that if she didn't leave the premises the police would be called. No incidents or drama whatsoever, a respectful exchange, but simply showing the price posted online was different(lower) than the price being given at the desk...they threatened to call the police over a customer's respectful questioning...that's inhumane given today's environment. Scaring us for no reason was ok with them. I'll pray they are never treated the same. Don't stay here. Black people are treated like there is a caste system. And honestly my family that lives in Sumter says many people of color and Black families visiting Sumter have experienced the same at this Red Roof Inn. DO NOT SPEND MONEY WHERE YOU ARE NOT RESPECTED AS A HUMAN. I could not safely recommend...
Read moreI stayed here on 9/29/2024. I stayed here mainly due to traveling with a pet and Red Roof not charging extra for a pet. It would have been worth the extra money to avoid this place. When I went to check in, a gentleman was sitting in the lobby playing on his phone. After my standing waiting for about 5 minutes, he finally went to get someone to help me. 1st strike. When I got to my room it smelled of cigarettes, which was confirmed by the multitude of burn marks on the bathtub. I didn't see any live roaches, but there were sticky traps with dead roaches in them. Amenities provided included one small bar of soap and a half filled bottle of shampoo. My cat sat by theI door growling so even he knew it was a sketchy place. It appeared that this place houses displaced people/families, but I'm only guessing. Maybe rooms for people without pets are better/cleaner, which might account for some of the 5 star reviews. Very far from the highway, which is on me for not doing...
