DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! We recently rented 1612A EM - On the Hour East. Once we entered the home we knew the house had NOT been cleaned prior to our arrival. Unfortunately we arrived on a Saturday and the Sunset Properties office was closed until Monday. We found dead bugs throughout the home, dirty linens, urine stains on toilets, hair in the master bathroom and layers and layers of dust all over everything. There were even spider webs on the lamp next to one of the beds. The bath mat in the master bathroom was covered in dirt, sand and someone else’s hair.
The location and views are wonderful BUT the windows of the home are so filthy you can barely see the view of the ocean from inside the home. It is such a shame and we were so disappointed since we spent $4,200 for a weekly rental.
When the office opened up on Monday I called them at 9am to share my concerns about the cleanliness. They offered to send someone to come clean the home. It is not helpful to check into a house and get settled and then have housekeeping come to clean while you are staying there. At any rate this was our only recourse as the staff at Sunset Properties could care less about my concerns. I told them I would leave them a negative review and they were aloof, unapologetic and rude.
The lady that they sent to come by to clean the urine on the toilets ALSO commented that the house did not appear clean. Even someone on their staff agreed it was dirty.
After the urine was cleaned and the dirty bathmat was removed the house still needed a very deep clean. There were no cleaning products in the house so I purchased a swiffer and cleaning wipes to try to clean it as much as I could. Please see a few pictures of the dirt and hair on the bathroom floor as well as the swiffer duster I used. There are also pictures of broken items in the home and areas in need of repair. Honestly, I would have spent my entire vacation taking pictures of all of the filth and broken items.
When we dropped off the key to the property I spoke to someone in person (who also could have cared less.) I asked to speak to the general manager and she asked me to wait outside the office. Note that the office was open at 9am and had people coming in and out of the office. How is that a way to treat a customer? The General Manager wasn’t much better, when I shared with him that they are in violation of our rental agreement as the rental agreement clearly states that the home will be clean he responded by saying “clean is subjective.” Yep- can you believe it? “Clean is subjective” well I do not think Urine stains and the filth shown in these pictures is subjective at all.
This company is AWFUL Stay away and rent via Airbnb or VRBO if you want to stay in clean place for your vacation. If urine and filth don’t bother you and you want to overpay for a run down rental then definitely rent...
Read moreWe stayed in Calypso last summer. We chose this property for the amazing sunsets. The house did not disappoint on that matter. The main problem was the air conditioner did not work! Upon arriving Saturday we noticed it was HOT but figured it was from moving stuff and doors open. Sunday was a bit better but still was 80 degrees in the house. We called maintenance Monday morning and they sent out someone who did a temperature check on the vents. He said it was blowing cold air even thought the thermostat read 80. He said there’s nothing they can do but bring box fans for the windows. I actually laughed because we spent $2800 on this property for the week and box fans was their best offer. They didn’t offer a window unit or anything. The house was so hot the sunroom was unusable even at midnight. One bedroom had aluminum foil on the windows to reflect light and heat. The beautiful view was not visible because the drapes had to be kept shut all day to keep the heat out. My father in law is a disabled veteran- he went to the office about 4:30 that evening to ask for a window unit and they said no. They just wanted to go home for the day. We went to Walmart and bought a speciality unit (since all the windows are left right sliding) just to make it thought the week. When i posted on social media what they were doing to us they sent window unit. Theu claimed they didn’t have time to help us before we posted on social media but that was a lie, they told my father in law no that the air was working just fine. Then when we left for the week the air guy was there picking up the unit, knowing very well the next family coming would have the same issue. Not to mention the house was gross. The company had nothing to say, just blamed us for the situation, saying we had extra guests yet everyone in our group slept in a bed provided in the home!?! We left this house in better condition than we found it. But I feel bad for all the families that have been duped by this company and property. We’ve rented from them many times and not had an issue. They really dropped the ball on this one and soured our week. This company will never get our business again (and we’ve been coming to this beach for 20 years). I’d rather rent from people who actually care about...
Read moreMy family has been coming to Sunset Beach for 15 years. We have always used Sunset Properties for our rentals and up until the last few years have always had good experiences. I'm not sure if there was a change in management a few years ago, but the past few years have been drastically different. In the last 2 or 3 years, we’ve arrived at dirty houses that have not been maintained well. This past year was the worst so far. There was still food all over the counter tops, the floors had clearly not been swept, and there was hair on the shower walls. On top of that, we paid for a linen ready house, and half of the beds did not have sheets on them. When we arrived, it appeared as though the cleaning crew had spent the day on the beach instead, of cleaning the house because they were still at the house when we arrived (after check-in time) and they all had on bathing suits and children were hosing off under the house. At first, we thought they were the previous guests, but they identified themselves as the cleaning crew and said the should be done soon. A vacation should not start with cleaning up someone else’s mess! We also had an incident where someone entered the property without giving us any prior notice and when the left, they did not lock the door. We called the office and were told that the HVAC crew came out to change the filters. This is something that should be done between guests, and it also concerning that so many people have keys to the house. It’s saddening to see a company that once seemed to care about customer service and the renter’s experience now seems to only care about the bottom line. I hope they make some changes soon, as I know several house owners and many renters are looking to use other rental agencies due to the shoddy service provided by...
