Dan helped me out and he’s a nice enough guy, but I wouldn’t trust him to fix my computer again. I came to him with my custom built gaming pc that I built about 3 months ago. The pc had 3 main problems: 1) the motherboard would not recognize my m.2 drive. 2) the pc kept blackscreening/bluescreening randomly, whether I was in game or not, and 3) while I was in game, if it didn’t black screen, it would crash and take me out of my games and sometimes the whole pc would reset. Upon picking it up, the only problem he was able to fix was getting my motherboard to recognize my m.2 drive, his fix was just putting it in the secondary port and calling it a day. He wasn’t able to fix anything else. His diagnosis on my pc was my CPU was causing all the problems due to overheating, but only while gaming. His recommendation: spend $180 on an all in one cooler from Corsair or NZXT. I took my pc home and did some tests of my own, and my CPU reached a max temperature of 34.2° while playing overwatch on the highest graphics settings (this was the game he used to test out the gaming part of my pc). Then it crashed and black screened. One of the in game overlays shows my GPU temperature so he must have gotten that confused with the CPU. Regardless, he was telling me my cpu was overheating at 75° C and crashing, which if you’re a gamer, you know CPU’s don’t even start to crash until they get into the upper 80’s and 90’s, sometimes even over 100°C. Once I got PC up and running again, I played another match of overwatch with MSI afterburner on my second monitor to check my temperatures while I was gaming, and the temps weren’t even close to 75°, they were around 33°C. After noticing this, I ran a stress test on my CPU that pushes the CPU it to its limit for 14 minutes, and I watched the temperatures of it hit a max of 62°C while running at its 100% capacity. Overwatch only uses about 40% capacity (checked via the task manager in windows). As you can probably tell, it definitely wasn’t the cpu that was causing the issues with my pc. So I decided to swap out the graphics card to the old graphics card I upgraded from two weeks ago, right before my pc started giving me troubles (I made sure to tell him I recently upgraded the GPU), downloaded the proper drivers and removed the drivers from the new graphics card, and lo and behold, games ran perfectly fine, no black screens, no crashes, nothin. So I put the new graphics card back in, deleted the old cards drivers and reinstalled the new drivers because I wanted to see if I just had bad drivers installed on the new gpu, and boom, black screens so bad I couldn’t even boot to windows. Dan didn’t think to check my newly upgraded GPU to see if that was causing all the black screens. He should also know that black screening is a massive sign that the GPU may have some problems. Ladies and gentlemen, I’d just like to finish off this review by saying this: I’m sure Dan does wonderful jobs on computers and anything else he repairs that are made for work, maybe photo editing, etc. He is a very knowledgeable man when it comes to technology. But for gaming and custom built PC’s, I would suggest you...
Read moreHe was very quick to return my call and offered to take my dying laptop in right away. After taking a brief look he found a reasonably priced replacement drive that evening and even with some minor shipping delays he had it back to me in no more than a week, working great and running better than it ever had before. And for about half of what the bigger retail store quoted me, because I definitely called around. Saving money was the name of the game for me and he took extra care to make sure we had the most affordable solution, and even still provided me with grade A+++ service. Texting/calling me with any important updates and asking my preference anywhere that needed it, I felt like Dan cared about my system just as much as anyone who goes to him. He really wanted to make sure I had the best replacement for the cost and that he could save any and all files from the old drive that he was able to. I'll never go to anyone else with a computer...
