I'm back home visiting for Thanksgiving, and when I travel I like to check out local comic book shops, thrift stores, and flea markets for unknown treasures. I spent a little while digging through boxes, but didn't find anything that peaked my interest. Right before I was about to leave I discovered there was a huge collection on consignment from another vendor. This collection had a three ring binder with hundreds of books listed along with approximate grades and pricing. I spend the next half an hour flipping through some boxes and come across one I'm familiar with. I also realize it is listed well below market value, so "score" I think to myself. I finish up since it's getting late, and don't want to keep the owner. I take the comic to the counter, but sadly I was politely met with "so I looked this up on eBay, and I've seen this sells for $75... but I'm not going to charge ebay prices so how does $60 sound?" The vendor had it listed for $15. I immediately declined, and was asked if I wanted to make a counter offer. I declined that as well, and left. Mind you this isn't an uncommon practice at comic shops to price at the counter, but this wasn't the owners books. This is a collection on consignment with what that person valued their comics at. I'm not entirely sure why the owner felt the need to reevaluate the vendor's pricing as they do not belong to him. As I was driving home I had to wonder if the book is now marked as bought for $15, and is currently in the store owners inventory listed at market value. I hope that isn't the case. So for any buyers that go in, don't waste your time going through the consignment binder. The prices listed don't mean anything, and you will be met with slightly discounted ebay prices. And if the owner of the consignment collection happens to read this, I am sorry this happened. While you had this comic underpriced and would have not received its full value, I had only made it through a few pages of your binder. It looks like there was a lot of stuff I would have been interested in purchasing. Before I was met with the pricing change at the counter I planned on coming back to look over everything you had over the next couple weeks. Sadly I will never step foot in this store again, and you probably just lost out on several hundred dollars in sales from your collection. You might want to consider putting what you have on ebay since that's the price it is being...
Read moreFound this place by sheer luck. There are pretty much zero comic stores in or near Erie pa that sell new comics. Of course with my luck a new comic comes out that was short ordered by almost every comic book retailer and me and my family who all play Fortnite wanted wanted this book. Yes I’m taking about the Batman Zero Point comic. Of course I was laughed at every store I called from Erie to Pittsburgh except here. I spoke with the owner William (who is a great guy) he let me know he had plenty in stock along with a ton of other DC, Marvel, Image etc and told me to stop on in. Well he wasn’t lying he had a ton of new and old stock (key books) comics for sale along with an entire store of other items such as coins, jewelry, baked goods. Needless to say I signed up for a subscription upon arrival and make this one if the only places I stop at during this pandemic when I do decide to leave my home. This store and William are 5...
Read moreI stop here annually in the fall when I go camping in the ANF. My visit to Comics 101 is always a high point of the trip. I have found so many great books there over the years and always leave with an armload of incredible comics. Contrary to what some have posted I have always found the books to be priced under market value for the condition they are in. I am an avid collector and visit dozens of shops a year, Comics 101 is an...
