Not many options in the area but this grocery store has enough major failings that I refuse to shop there anymore. First, their produce selection is poor in terms of quality and price - all too often even the items are close to expiration and rot quickly after purchase - also items well past their prime on the shelves for sale. My second complaint is with their customer service. The deli and bakery staff are nice, but their cashiers rarely thank customers for their purchases or otherwise act personable. If that's how it's going to be, in my opinion you might as well install all automatic checker machines.Another complaint is the shopping experience in general is uncomfortable. The aisles are already very narrow and could barely accommodate two carts side by side, but on top of this most of the aisles are filled with large cardboard dump displays every few feet, as is the main aisle. Finally and most infuriatingly, if you choose to pay with a large bill like a $100, the cashier is required to call a code on the intercom, have a supervisor come over to check the bill, AND the cashier logs the serial number of the bill in a notebook at the register. Since when is paying with cash for groceries an event worthy of such investigation? It causes embarrassment and delay to the customers, is overly invasive, and serves no practical purpose. All these things combined with a dearth of organic food options are enough to make switch over to the farmer's market for all my produce and dairy, and Amazon Prime for the groceries...
Read moreSo my husband,Daniel, was treated horribly yesterday at Ahart's Market in Blakeslee. He went to the bakery to pick up an ice cream cake for my birthday yesterday and instead of putting "Happy birthday" he wanted to make it special so he asked her to write "Feliz 29th cumpleanos mi amor". The woman working in the bakery said she didn't know how to spell it so Daniel began spelling it for her. She then says, "You know this is America right?". Thankfully, a spanish speaking gentleman was there and helped him. He and Daniel spoke spanish to each other about the order and she became more irritated and asked what they were saying. Daniel explained to her that he told him what he wanted. He didn't tell me about any of this until late last night and by nature he's not confrontational but just know if I was there this racism would not have been tolerated. He did not need to explain his conversation with the other worker, he should not have been criticized for being nontraditional, and honestly happy birthday in spanish is a pretty common phrase. America is two continents, but the United States of America is a melting pot of many languages, cultures, etc. People need to look beyond their street and realize how big the world actually is. I bet this is not the first time she said something and won't be the last because slurs like that are tolerated too often. Do...
Read moreOutrageously priced, never have anything in stock, & they don’t carry a lot of the snacks / diet food me & my partner eat. I WISH someone would buy these people out so a real grocery store with normal pricing could replace them. Think about the poor people who live here full time..That must really suck for them. Bc I know I couldn’t do a full haul there, god knows what that total would come out too. So you know they’re being forced to either drive 25 minutes to daleville/mt Pocono to shoprite /walmart - so over an hour of driving total, just to buy proper food at a normal price, or they’ll just use the dollar general which isn’t an actual grocery store so.. idk, I just think it’s messed up how they’ve monopolized the area & manage to stay in business since they’re the closest most convenient grocery store for miles so they feel like they can price high & have 0 standards for there store bc they know people will keep coming, cause they have no other choice. Pretty F’ed up...
