5/24/2018 - 3 star initial review The new facility and location are really great. The culture could use some improvement though. This is not a gym that you can just walk into at any time to work out. They have a set class schedule and 1:1 training sessions but that is the feature that attracted me to this gym. I am currently a class member as well as a personal training client. I have body and health goals that I want to meet and I think the owners/personal trainers can help me reach those goals - but I don't know if I will stay with this gym long term (past the 6 month mark). I find the environment and culture there to be stressful and judgmental.
UPDATE 6/8/2018 - 1 star revised review Holy smokes guys, I don't even know where to start with this place. Talk about a terrible environment - WHOA
I received a text message from one of the owners immediately after posting my initial review. She asked if there had been something that had happened to trigger the 3 star review above. I gave her an recent example of the "judgmental environment" and she asked that we move forward and try to correct it. Fair enough right? I thought so. UNTIL the next morning when I received a very formal membership termination letter from her husband. I'm serious guys, you just can't make up what I'm about to tell you.
The letter stated that attempts to charge my debit card were declined, payment was now 10 days past due, and that my contract has now been VOIDED. Funny how no one brought any payment issue to my attention prior to that. Kinda sounds like someone trying to use a reason that would shame a would-be reviewer right? Even if these claims were true, which...come on now - to cancel a membership for a payment being 10 days late? I don't know if any of you have ever tried to cancel a gym membership - it's really not that easy y'all. You may as well be asked to send a certified letter, notarized in unicorn blood to get out of a normal gym contract. The letter goes on to state that my last 1:1 session on May 21st remained unpaid but has been granted to me free of charge and that the remaining 3 group classes can be taken at my leisure. A text to the owner resulted in an additional claim that this was the fault of their NEW (2nd) silent partner's demand to "fix" overdue accounts. This all feels very retaliatory to me. I'd imagine that silent partners would want to get paid...not lose members because someone's ego couldn't handle a little criticism.
This place could have potential but the owners' constant social media sob stories, inappropriate bashing of other clients, former employers/employees/business partners, and other businesses - will likely be their ultimate downfall. But the totally crazy part of all this is that it seems like they can't see what they are doing to themselves. In addition to their negative comments about their other clients, previous landlord, and even a local, beloved veterinarian - the OWNERS are the first people to talk about their OWN issues with their clients. Things that most people would never even consider making public knowledge - like ongoing legal battles and very private financial circumstances. I don't know if this is a way to seek sympathy or allies but it definitely makes for a super uncomfortable 1:1 workout session for a client. If any of these claims are false then it would be the fault of the owners themselves. They just...can't...stop...talking about themselves. If they can manage to stop their negative commentary, redirect the culture that exists there, and get out of their own way, then they will likely find the level of success they're seeking.
I could go on to list every negative situation I had there but frankly, if I had just asked around before joining, I would have gotten all the information I needed to steer clear of these guys. You can get all the details you want from asking former clients. Instead, I'd advise you to just move on and find another place to work out. The stress and people bashing at this place is just not worth the expensive,...
Read moreI have been at Pheonix Athletica for almost a year now. I have been working with Bob & Lindsay but mostly with Bob. They have been amazing to work with and are very flexible with my schedule. Right when I walk in the door they are very welcoming and encouraging. They are easy going and down to earth and make my workouts a lot easier to show up to when I don't have the most motivation on certain days. Bob is always flexible when it comes to my workout depending on what activities I'll be doing for the upcoming week and is very informative on the workouts I'll be doing for that day. He has helped me stay in shape and I haven't had any sports injuries since being with them which has been an issue since working behind a desk the last few years. The only complaint is I don't hear enough Kelly Clarkson on their playlists but...
Read moreI regularly attend a gym where I lift weights and work on staying in shape. However I live in constant pain. I was invited by Lindsay to come into Phoenix Athletica for an assessment. Lindsay surprised me with her knowledge and assessment of my habits and condition immediately!! I was assessed and we came up with a treatment plan that was tailored to MY PROBLEMS! I travel often and need all things in my life to accommodate a rapidly changing schedule. Lindsay has been both understanding and supportive. I love the fact that this “facility” is dedicated to me for the time that I pay to be there. Lindsay and Bob are informed experts and take the time to TEACH me what’s goin on with my body and I always leave having learned something new. I highly recommend their services to anyone regardless of your level of...
