Thank you, Marc, Long Island Watches, for an excellent purchase experience. As you can see, I'm wearing both Phoibos Leviathan sizes, 45mm and 42mm in one photo, and the abalone dial Wave Master in another. I have 24 watches ranging in price from $200 - $3850. Phoibos watches are new to me and I've been very impressed. I wore the 45mm for two weeks fishing in the mountains of Montana. I beat the heck out of it, and it remains spotless. The strap that is included (not pictured) is very thick and holds this relatively heavy watch very well. Yes, it is large and beefy. But I found it to be very comfortable and easy to read in any light.
The 42mm yellow dial Leviathan was a love at first sight. What you really cannot see in most photos of this watch is the textured dial, which I love. The case and bracelet have angular cuts and the brushed finish seems perfect. The link pins are screws, which I like so much more than push pins. The on the fly adjustable clasp works well and can be made to fit nearly perfectly.
The abalone Wave Master was an impulse buy. Not so sure about that one yet, but my granddaughters love it.
My sense is that Phoibos watches represent excellent value, given their build quality and modest pricing, especially when Marc has them on sale. By comparison, they are as good or better than my Seikos, and as good as my Christopher Ward at more than three times the price. I am most impressed with the sapphire clarity on all three watches.
Finally, I like the designs and aesthetic approach that separate them from other brands, generally. Do they compromise on movement by using the NH35? Should I be concerned that they are made in Hong Kong, with parts from who knows where? I'll...
Read moreLooks like this will be the first negative review on Google, which is unfortunate, but this was my experience: I recently purchased a matte Squale 1521 from Island and upon receipt, was very disappointed to learn that Squale no longer engraves their logo on the side of the case. A small detail to some, but important to me. According to Marc, this was effective as of Jan 2020. However, the pictures on this site still showed the case with the engraving (they have since been updated).
While Marc was attentive by email, I was ultimately told to "just read the receipt" for return info - which obviously meant I was on the hook for return shipping of an item that was not delivered as pictured. I'm not a Squale expert - that's why I rely on reputable resellers. Now I'm out $30 for Island Watch's error to have this returned to them with insurance. Mistakes happen, but a more proactive approach to customer service would have been welcome...
Read moreHaving enjoyed, the 43 mm, Pepsi Bezeled Islander Diver, for about a year now, thought I needed to stop and drop a review. I was very impressed with the look, fit and finish right out of the box. A couple of weeks into wearing the new watch, I noticed two light scratches on the crystal. Given that I was convalesing from surgery, and hadn't ventured beyond the shower. I sent Mr. Frankyl an e mail, stating the problem, and he went above and beyond sending me, at no cost, a replacement crystal. I work outdoors, alot, spend a lot of time in salt water, and am pretty rough on my watches and rings, and this watch, is a beast !! I took the watch off this morning, because of some messy work I was into, on a ladder, up high. It fell off, twelve feet to a concrete floor, NO DAMAGE. You will not get a Diver, with these features, even close to this price point. GREAT...
