I have bronchiectasis, a chronic lung condition without a cure, and recently dealt with a wicked bout of pneumonia. I'd been a walking pharmacy (at one point on 8 medications) for months after the pneumonia, and someone recommended trying alternatives to help my body get back to full health. Salt room therapy was suggested. It was my first time coming here, and Trevor was so kind, taking the time (even as busy as it was!) to explain things to me, let me know that I had no worries of contraindications with my medications, and just generally put me at ease. Within 5 minutes in the therapy room I felt relief and could breathe deeply for the first time in months without coughing. By the end of the session my cough was completely gone, my full voice returned without the scratchiness, and my energy level felt great. While there I saw several families with young children whose parents mentioned to me dealing with both asthma and allergies and that salt therapy really helps their children. I realize that not everyone is blessed with such a nasty lung disease, but for me, this was life changing. I will be a regular visitor here for a long, long time to come! Thank you Salt Room Appleton for giving this teacher her voice back and her lungs...
Read moreMy 11 month old son enjoyed playing in the bright room for about 25 minutes of the 45 minute session. By 30 minutes, he was seemingly uncomfortable, and we left the room by 35 minutes. My sinuses and cuts on my hand were burning, so I’m sure his dry skin/eczema sore spots were feeling similar, but he can’t express that to me.
It is certainly a unique experience, that I don’t feel I was very prepared for. The receptionist, while calm and friendly, wasn’t “selling” it very much. She was not very forthcoming or proactively providing helpful information. I had to ask a ton of clarifying questions—because it was my first time and I had no idea what I was doing there because we got invited by friends to join them—and sometimes her responses made me feel dumb.
We also didn’t learn until afterwards that we could have opted to lower the intensity of the salt air being pumped into the room, which probably would’ve been helpful as 1) first timers and 2) with babies.
I like the idea of the kids play room, but I think I would have much preferred going by myself in the quiet room and not having to get my clothes and hands extra salty chasing my son around.
The lobby is decorated nicely, and is very calm and...
Read moreMy 3 year son has had a cold for over a month so a nurse practitioner recommended we try The Salt Room. He loves playing in the sandbox so I had a feeling he would love playing in the salt and be able to stay occupied for 45 min, and I was not wrong. He loved it! He had a scraped up knee, but the lady helping us warned me. I put jeans on that I had and it didn’t bother him. We were very comfortable the whole time; we could taste the salt on our lips but other than that we could hardly tell we were breathing in microscopic salt but we were! I think it helped a little with congestion, I mean, he’s 3 so hard to tell for sure but at the very least it was fun! We are used to getting dirty outside during our play so we didn’t mind salt all over. I want to bring my one year old, but it’s hard for her to do anything for 45 minutes in general. There are lockers to put your belongings in and make sure you wear socks! I...
