I am extremely disappointed with Zoom room training. I had heard nothing but great things, so I was really looking forward to bringing my 13-month-old German Shepherd in. Unfortunately, the experience was the complete opposite of what I expected.
It starts with a $25 evaluation, which they tell you over the phone will take about 30 minutes. That part was accurate â but during those 30 minutes, all they did was ask me a bunch of questions. There was almost no interaction with my dog, except for when they brought out a fake dog to see how she would react. I was hoping theyâd actually work with her a bit to see where she stands, but that never happened.
I also felt judged the entire time. The trainer looked down on me for spaying my dog at 13 months, even though thatâs what was recommended by her vet. She told me I should have waited until she was two, which honestly didnât sit right. On top of that, nothing she told me was new information â I didnât walk away with any real advice or direction.
At the end of the evaluation, they recommended one-on-one private lessons at $120 for just 30 minutes, maybe once or twice, and then said they might have to outsource us to someone else who comes to the home and brings us places for her to interact with other people and animals. They never once went over any other program options, which was disappointing because thatâs not what they advertise on their website. To make matters worse, the only hours they offer these private sessions are Monday through Friday at 4 PM, and Saturday and Sunday at 11 AM only â which is extremely limiting.
For context, my dog is not aggressive. She barks a lot at new people and animals but calms down within five minutes. Instead of working with her or giving me strategies, I was basically told that the trainerâs own dog didnât settle down until three years old â and thatâs coming from a trainer!
Overall, I left feeling judged, frustrated, and like I wasted my time and money. I will definitely be looking elsewhere for training that actually provides interaction, guidance, and opportunities for...
Read moreIn response to your reply - We did mention all 4 occasions that she had nipped. We mentioned we had no issues in a year since we had another trainer over to our house to give us advice on her anxiety and she was seen by the vet and is now on anti-anxiety medication. We said all of this prior to scheduling the initial evaluation, which was described as her being presented with a large stuffed dog to see how she would react. Our goal for having her evaluated was to get her to socialize with other dogs as she runs back into the house when other dogs bark. We were very honest and transparent about our dogâs issues as we did not want her to do anything to other dogs or people, and after we disclosed all of this, we were scheduled for her initial evaluation.
We have a dog with anxiety and these âdog trainersâ refused to even evaluate her because a year ago she nipped at a few people due to her anxiety. She is by no means an aggressive dog and we proved it by walking in the door and she greeted the âdog trainerâ happily. There were no issues and she was excited to be there but they immediately dismissed her and told us to go to another trainer. Donât waste your time or money here if you have a dog...
