If I could give 0 stars I would. The most inconsistent process to ever endure and here I am talking about adopting dogs. Dogs who were bonded together 1 being with special needs, I was all enthusiastic upon entering greeting the woman at the front desk with the information of we had beds, bowls & toys prepared at home and was greeted by that woman who introduced herself by telling me to calm down. The owner who surrendered them still had an opportunity to claim them back? Then she didn’t know if there was applicants already for the pair in motion which had me fill out my own applications. We were then sent back to meet the dogs with the “adopters” and during that time no questions were asked about us to ensure the quality of life for the dogs but I was judged when I couldn’t provide a vets name for a dog who passed 5 years ago along with being anti social and not having many references to give. They had no sort of training in place for the deaf dog rather they just shrugged on certain actions the dog did and said well she’s deaf what can you do about it?….This coming from dog handlers who want to see if your qualified to handle the job so I replied to Michael that that just takes some hand signals and training. The adopters and the front office do not communicate because we were now told that there are applicants coming to see the dogs and basically was told after experiencing a terrific moment with them to sit, wait and hope that these applicants don’t work out…meanwhile the website says we do not hold dogs. I received a phone call not saying the applicants didn’t work out but that they were on their way! Why would you ever call someone to tell them that? Why would you call my references while other applicants are on their way to see the dogs? Isn’t that unfair to the both of us? If you want people to give you a better idea of who they are you should ask for related references instead of unrelated so the picture is clearer but if you had any other doubts my whole family was there for questioning and we received none. Whole family comes from the Army. My family’s character and integrity were there to resolve and doubts you may have but the shelter chose to sneakily ask my references what my credit score is? Am I finically stable? Really? So all because I couldn’t provide a 3rd reference while offering home checks and everything else that would better verify then any non related reference could I was denied. Called my one reference weird. A truly horrible, emotionally painful visit and it is true, humans do suck because these 2 dogs just lost a FOREVER HOME! Absolutely...
Read morethis is case # 0443-25, this was a small adult female gray and white cat tht followed me home 31/2 yrs ago, i assumed she was a stray, but how she took to me she could"ve been abandoned, i setup a heated cat house in a gated walkway next to our house, where she stayed for the next 31/2 yrs always with the hope tht we could get her inside, if not with at least with someone who love cats, we have a jealous, aggressive female cat inside, the environment was not conducive, and she was happier outside, she was fed religiously morning and nite, things were going well up until a few days before March 10th of this year when she starting acting a little confused, not herself, but hostile or aggressive, i was running short on funds to have her seen by a private veterinarian so i called the Hempstead Animal Shelter at 3320 Beltagh ave in Wantagh for assistance in evaluating and assessing what was wrong, and possible treatment, i called them on Monday, March 10th they killed her the very next day, early Tuesday morning, she was'nt even tht facility for 24 hrs, they did nothing for her, at least keep her for a few more days to properly evaluate her, calling the Hempstead animal shelter was one biggest mistakes of my life, the Vet took one look at her and decided to kill her to rule out rabies, cuz there is no test to rule out rabies, the Vet/facility has to kill or sacrifice the animal to get brain tissue, so a lot of animals who have rabies are dying needlessly, i called the 2 days later for the results, only my 2nd time, and a woman answered who was very unprofessional and nasty, telling my cat was gonna die anyway, and she was just an old cat tht lived outside, she is cold hearted and noncaring and should not be working around animals where a lot of compassion is needed, and with my cat SHE DID NOT HAVE RABIES, the test was negative, they never gave her a chance, i called to speak to a Vet, i just wanted to know my cat had to die, i love her, and miss her so very much, i still stand next to her cat house every day, thinking about her, she was a very special cat and took only to me, I wanted us to be together til death due us part, not die or be killed by a false diagnosis of rabies, but tht was all taken from me by the lack of compassion and lack further evaluation, for a more decisive and better diagnosis, as opposed to just saying she may have rabies and killing her, on behalf of the Hempstead animal shelter at 3320 Beltagh ave in...
Read moreZero stars if possible. I am VERY upset with this establishment. I had an appt scheduled for my kitten to get neutered here for over a month. When I get there the lady working at the desk greeted me, I told her I had an appt for my cat to be neutered and she looked at me like I had 6 heads (why... that's what this shelter does?) Then she told me I did not have an appt. I told her she must be mistaken, but she continued to tell me I did not. She then called the vet who was doing the operation, and had him come out to speak with me. He asked what the issue was, I told him, then he asked if I got my kitten from here. I told him no, for I've never been here before. He starts LAUGHING at me acting like I'm stupid, telling me he only operates on cats from this specific shelter. I was confused. We debated back and fourth about how I do have this appt and how my shelter scheduled it for me. He then sees my paperwork with the name of MY shelter and he goes "OH, you got him from that shelter? We do partner with them for neuters. Why didnt you just tell me that in the first place?" With an attitude... laughs again. He DID NOT ask me where I got him, he told me off the bat that only cats purchased from here were operated on. Excuse me?! Then the lady at the desk told me my shleter was supposed to drop off the cat and gave me more of a hard time. Finally they took him in with all this stress and un necessary issues. But before they have me sign a paper saying I agree which us normal, but the lady goes on a rant about how HUGE of a risk neuters are, STRESSING that it's a huge risk, making it sound incredibly negative when it's a normal 20 minute procedure, making me second guess it. Then when I came to pick him up they could not find my paperwork AGAIN. the only positive outcome from this place was that my cat was fine, thank goodness. The whole day I was stressing about the vet that I fought with operating on him and the fact they made it sound so risky. Also called to complain and wasnt much help. Summary: very unprofessional, unorganized, disrespectful, and...
