Akal Supermarket — Local services in Town of Islip

I’ve been in here a few times and every time I pray it gets better. First time Chobani yogurts were spoiled or about to spoil in two days. Second visit no meat in the meat area just this plastic covering where the meat should be. Gave them grace 5 months ago because they were new. Now they have chicken but the meat area is still empty. Then the other day I bought tomato sauce and when I left another shopper said his bread had mold so he said always check the expiration. How about the sauce was spoiled when I checked the can! The expiration date was Aug 2024…2 months ago! I immediately went back for a refund. This is NOT okay. The community needs to do something or this establishment needs to address these issues. We need a convenient market but this ain’t it! I’ll go to Pats marketplace any day...

An absolutely bizarre experience. We went in and all the lights were off, no heat, yet we were told yes, they were open. Had to use my cellphone to light what I was looking at—which mind you, there was barely anything. Was told by the person working (owner?) that I don’t need to be “looking at all the merchandise” (aka shopping?) and asked why I was taking photos. Well, truly, I was taking photos to warn others of what they may encounter here. The bread was covered in mold. I understand and am empathetic to the fact that they were having issues with the store, but it absolutely should not be open until the issues are resolved. This store has so much potential and could be an amazing place, yet they are risking making customers sick to remain open when...
