Cosmos Burgers Creamery — Restaurant in Town of Islip

When it comes to eating, this place has that Sonic Drive-In/Friendly's vibe; the food (burgers, fries, chicken, etc.) may not be something to write home about (much of it is "alright" at best) but the desserts (ice cream, shakes, malts, floats, etc.) is where the menu truly shines! Each ice cream concoction (including one of my faves, Rocky Road) is stuffed to the brim with mix-ins and the shakes are just the right kind of thickness. The girls who served my friends and I were very friendly with warm smiles and polite suggestions to get the most out of our eating experience. They even let me sample a flavor of their ice cream (after which I knew I was getting dessert with my meal!) so I knew what I was in for. The ambiance has that charming Pizza Planet vibe to it (If you've seen the movie "Toy Story" you get it!) filled with outer space decor and space-themed names for the menu items making it very family-friendly. If it had an arcade (or at least just a few cabinets), that would be pretty cool! (I'm not knocking points off for that one btw!) The place is definitely a good place for quality desserts and customer experience. As for lunch or dinner, it's good but I'm pretty sure your local diner may satisfy you a bit more. This place is out of this world! (OK, had to do it lol). The alien theme is clever. The food is fantastic. It was 3 generations, my mom, my husband and me, and my 5 year old son. Hubby and I had burgers, my son and Mom had grilled cheese. Burgers were delicious, grilled cheese was better than the usual standard my mom said. Where they really shone was their sides. Fries, sweet potatoe fries, onion rings, all extremely tasty. Would be hard to choose just one on a return visit.

Then of course, ice cream. Their cream was thick and creamy and quite tasty. Flavorful. Soooo good! Lots of toppings to choose from. Got free soft-serve sundaes for buying hard-serve sundaes on a Thursday. The soft serve comes in a lot of different flavors and was delicious.

The best part of this establishment was the kind and sweet girls working behind the counter. We have a bit of a chaotic family including a 5 year old wanting to try every colorful flavor, and they worked so well with our family, which was...

I visited here for the first time after recently moving to the neighborhood.

The staff is extremely pleasant, more so than the majority of to-go centric restaurants I have visited as of late.

Portions were extremely generous and very fairly priced.

10/10 onion rings - if I had a second stomach, I would have ordered two. They had great salinity and subtle sweetness without being greasy.

My burger was cooked slightly pink (perfect) and juicy. The bun held up to the toppings with ease.

My wife and kids loved the tots, fries, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers (which were clearly made of whole chicken, as my daughter had great fun pulling them apart to reveal the grain of the breast.

I’m excited to return and try some of the creative ice cream flavors.
