04/15/19 12:30pm Monday I like this supermarket better than the Central Islip Target because the food products here are more diverse, the price point on average is good, and they usually don't block the food aisles. Speaking of merchandise, the store is generally well-stocked and you can find the manager if needed. The prices are working class average. Desserts are based on Hispanic supply and demand. There are exceptions, but you will not find Pepperidge Farms cookies here. Addendum: 07/24/19 1:00pm Wednesday.
This is not the best time to shop due to new stock arriving and being shelved. The place is in disarray which makes it difficult to locate what you need and there are trip hazards throughout the central aisles. (See photos). There are far too many items not priced; those against the wall are not priced at all where the apples are. There are some sale price labels, but it is impossible to determine which apples, or any fruit, are on sale or the sale price. Some labels that do exist are not legible. It will seriously delay your shopping time if you are cost-conscious and find yourself investigating and calculating rather than buying. Their produce scales also need to be calibrated.
Side Note: one-gallon jugs of water are not available here. Cases of individual plastic bottles of water for the landfill or recycling ARE available.
These matters were reported (not the water bottle thing) to the lady at Customer Service who immediately went on the defensive instead of calling the manager. Why work in Customer Service if you think we have mistaken you for the CEO of the company? You will never be accused of such a thing! I explained she was not responsible, rather the only person who could be found. My additional thirty minutes shopping here will not be ignored due to the unnecessary inconvenience. It is said "you pay for convenience". No, convenience is when you chew my food to give to the dog. It is cheaper than Alpo.
If you shopped here on your lunch hour today, you may been very late getting back to work. CTown gets TWO STARS today when it should be FOUR as it was during the first review. Two stars because Customer Service acted as a gatekeeper, not a problem/solution facilitator.
This review will be amended again if these shortcomings are rectified by my next unannounced visit. WalMart is still my ace-in-the-hole, or Best Market, but CTown is conveniently located in my corner of the planet.
A More Upbeat Criticism: My cashier, Rosa, was an absolute gem. She empathized with me and made me feel better than Customer Disservice. Rosa did not "pass the buck", an old phrase meaning "irresponsible". Make her Manager.
Was all this drama a big deal? Not really, just really...
