Im usually not inclined to leave feedback. I’ve generally have better things to do. My experience at this Y was so bad it was funny.
I’m used to checking in and having membership at my home Y confirmed, usually by the person at the front desk, a few keystrokes on the computer and there you go.
However, the gate keeper had no interest in doing so and referred me to membership services. When I got in line realized I was in trouble. Everyone in front of me was either applying for a job or getting the membership pitch. It quickly became apparent that I would probably be waiting for at least a half hour, maybe longer. It might have been quicker if the rest of the staff were busy working, but it seemed to be social hour.
Upon finally getting the attention of one of the staff, the real fun began. A simple procedure became a nightmare. There was a tremendous amount of running around, writing things down, confusion, phone calls and inability to use a computer.
After a few eons it was decided that I was indeed worthy of entering the facilities.
The class I attended tried to rise to the level of mediocrity, but fell short. I’ve taken this class in about 15 different Y’s but this one was special. A garbled sound system didn’t help. The instructors were enthusiastic, but somewhat hampered by lack of rhythm and memorization of the sequences.
But the best part was the locker room. To reach it you had to literally walk through the basketball courts, dodging balls and players. Upon arriving, you were greeted what I would describe as a fetid lagoon of water. Every surface that wasn’t dirty was either rusted or mildewed. Fungi must be the state flower.
Any thoughts of using the hot tub were quickly dispelled by the green, oily water. As I changed my clothes I realized I would have to sacrifice my towel to the biome so I would have a place stand.
When I looked around I realized there wasn’t a single exit sign, emergency light or anything to guide you out of the labyrinth in event of a power failure. How the Fire Marshal let that go is beyond me.
In short, my experience was somewhat less than satisfactory.
And you can keep the...
Read moreI believe some of these reviews are a little over the top but I understand how some things can be frustrating but to rate them low because of the walk to the gym area is a bit dramatic. From my experience everything appeared well taken care of and everyone seemed friendly. I agree that the staff at the front are a bit inattentive and lack enthusiasm. However, I go there to workout, swim etc so I’m not too worried about making friends with everyone that...
Read moreI love this gym. It is very spacious and has many options for lifting weights/machines. As an added bonus they have a swimming area which is useful for after a workout. The basketball courts are outstanding, perfect size and all around great. Overall its very good for being a Y gym. Its still 4 stars because it could focus more on the actual fitness aspect but compared to gyms around it is one of the...
