EF Academy in Thornwood, New York, is a place where students make life-long friends from all over the world. Here students set and achieve goals and grow as individuals.
Students are encouraged to adopt the IB Learner Profile character traits. They are encouraged to become Balanced, to be Risk Takers, to be Open-Minded, and to be Caring and Communicative. For many students, these character traits are developed over the weeks, months, and years spent at EF Academy. For other students, the challenges that come with studying abroad away from their parents in a rigorous academic environment are too much. Chief among these challenges is the Discipline required. A prospective student will need to wake up on their own; do laundry on their own; and push themselves to study and work-hard every day. A student should be prepared to stretch themselves and step out of their comfort zone.
As EF Academy continues to grow I have seen vast improvements in the quality of life a student experiences - from extra-curricular activities, to the facilities, safety procedures, and learning environment. EF is a growing enterprise, a place of dynamic change, and continual refinement. It is definitively NOT a stagnant or boring place to...

Read moreWe live in northern Westchester and feel fortunate to have come across EF Academy, an international IB high school, for our daughter's last two years of high school. In addition to offering a unique international environment that teaches students about cultures all over the world through their friendships and class discussions, it also offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum. The IB program, which is difficult to find in this area, consists of coursework as challenging as AP classes, but is, in my opinion, superior to AP due to the self-directed nature of the learning. IB students choose their own extended research topics in each class, allowing them to delve deeply into areas in which they are specifically interested, therefore making them more invested in their education. The administrators at EF are accessible and invested in students' individual success, and my daughter formed meaningful relationships with several teachers. I believe her experience at EF has uniquely prepared her for Georgetown's School of Foreign Service, where she will begin this fall. I would highly recommend EF to families who want to provide their children with a global and challenging high...
