Hannaford — Local services in Town of New Windsor

The New Windsor Hannaford is very nice, one of my favorite Hannaford stores I’ve been to in NY state. The store is always clean and well kept. Bathrooms are always clean. I love the trees and the skylights in the produce dept, very nice and gives the store a nice, natural feel! The produce is usually fresh with a wide variety. Lettuce and peppers are always fresh and nicely displayed. Bakery dept is well stocked with a wide variety of fresh baked goods. I’ve bought donut from the bakery dept here and it was fresh. The deli is well stocked a variety of deli meats and cheeses. The prepared foods are great, not as wide a variety as the remodeled stores, but still a good selection. There is chicken (fried and rotisserie), as well as a small hot wing bar with various items. I’ve bought the chicken tenders (both the spicy and mild), and chicken sandwiches on various occasions and they’re always fresh and delicious. I’ve bought a few of the fries and mozzarella sticks from the hot wing bar and those were very tasty as well. Seafood selection is small, but the fish is usually fresh and well stocked. Meat dept is great like at most Hannaford stores; they always have a wide variety of various cuts of fresh meats, as well as a butcher counter. The rest of the store has a good selection of items. This location has a small natural and organic section across from the bakery. This store also has a pharmacy and Hannaford to go. The staff here are always very friendly, courteous, and helpful, like at most Hannaford stores. This location is spacious and usually isn’t too busy, making for a nice shopping experience. Like at any supermarket, check expiration dates and check over perishable items before you buy, although this store usually does a good job rotating products and keeping everything fresh. A few of the cases are older and are showing their age - such as the dairy cases which are a bit scuffed and dirty in a few areas - those could use a bit of cleaning. New Windsor Hannaford has really declined significantly over the last two months. There is currently new management running this store and they are running it into the ground. The store is a mess. There are constantly empty, and disorganized displays in every department. Many items throughout the store are out of stock for weeks. Produce displays are always half empty and what few items are stocked often aren’t fresh. Same goes for the rest of the store. Many aisles are disorganized and messy with empty shelves, items not pulled forward, expired or damaged items, and items in the wrong spots. Dairy is a mess. I’m constantly finding expired items (especially in the condiment section). I recently found expired mayonnaise from February 2025. I now see far less staff on the floor than I used to. Many departments have very few staff around and the front end usually only has 1 or 2 cashiers. The staff members who have always been super friendly, upbeat, and helpful are now clearly very unhappy and overworked. The current store manager is awful. I saw her speaking rudely to an associate in the produce section and was shocked that’s how she’d speak to an associate, especially on the floor in clear view of customers. Totally unprofessional. This store needs a total change in leadership. Up until recently, this was the best managed Hannaford in the Hudson Valley. It had always been well stocked, clean, neatly organized, and well staffed with happy, friendly employees. The previous store manager who’d run the store for a long time (I believe his name was Chris) clearly was FAR better than the current management. It’s honestly pretty surprising how fast this store has gone downhill under the new current management, it’s very obvious as soon as you walk in that something isn’t right at this location. They need to either bring back the old store manager or get a different new management team because the current one isn’t running this store properly. I'm not going to lie, I love going to this place for their decent prices, even without their membership card. However, this is the third time I've had their sushi. I really wanted to give it a shot because it was a decent price, but every time I have their sushi, I get the worst kind of sickness. I was out for like 4 hours, going between being knocked out and going to the toilet. I'm not going to give too many graphic details, but for some reason, their fish or their sushi department is messing up here, and I just wanted to let everyone else know my opinion. Overall, I think the place is great, but their quality control on some of their prepared foods is bad. I don't think I'd ever go again. I tried. I thought maybe the first time, "Okay, maybe bad fish." The second time, "I'm not going to do this again." But I was just like, "Maybe the first two times were on me, and I just chose the bad of the lot." I went for one of the freshest I could find, and the same thing happened again.
