Update: May 16, 2018 My favorite store went the dogs..and that is insulting dogs to say the least. I loved this store and then they were bought out by Stop n Shop, which I disliked very much. They don't have a real butcher shop anymore and their meats have all jumped in price from 1-2 a lb, at least. Their seafood is nonexistent and when I've tried to buy fresh shrimp, I am told they only have frozen shrimp in a bag in the cooler cabinet. They've mixed all of their natural/organic/special diet products that had their own area (the straight forward healthy section basically) within the rest of the store. Given I don't buy junk, it means I have to walk through the whole store to find basic health food without fillers, tons of sugar, and corn syrup. They have also done away with a lot of the nature's place store brand which included organic, natural products for a reasonable price. Their end caps are pushing junk-junk snacks of unnatural colors, soda, cereals with all the colors of the rainbow, candy, etc. Their end caps were usually collections for a meal or an event, not KRAFT or general mills "food product." Staff has changed over as well. There is something that is so unappealing of staff that are unkempt, with disheveled uniforms and don't even know how to make eye contact. Hannaford used to work with people from all over the community, from those who were career grocery staff or coached staff who were entry level from a special training program. However, they were all neat and professional. Now, good luck finding someone to help you bag. When you are done putting your stuff on the belt and paying you have to rush to bag your own stuff while a line waits. Their prices are also not guaranteed. There is a lot of products that ring up wrong. That was never the case. And if you want a better deal, you have to sign up to their "rewards" program which you have to do at home on a computer or at their booth but not during checking out. They've done away with a lot of products I use. I haven't shopped there except for milk and some emergency essentials since they began to remodel, which is chaos in fact and done like pulling teeth over months. I am now going to Aldi's, Adams, and Mother Earth. Despite it being on the other side of the river, I get the best value and variety and professionalism that I used to get at Hannaford.
OLD REVIEW: I choose Hannaford over any other grocery shop and instead when I have to go anywhere else. Prices see the prices and there aren't any sale schemes. No need for coupons for posted or special prices. Prices ring up always as posted. Food is fresh and they have a great selection of special exotic and ethnic food basics to make any dish. Organic and gluten free options are plenty as I am allergic to wheat and my child to dairy they offer several brands of each gluten free item. I rarely shop the middle but it seems to have a great selection of mainstream products with healthy and healthy versions. Bakery and hot food and wing bar are yummy, made fresh and isn't reheated food. Now, staff and cleanliness are the most visible difference here. Staff here are all very pleasant. Their uniforms and grooming are professional and they are friendly and effective and very knowledgeable. They are very friendly-did I say they already? That is something you don't see see at ops or stop n shop and I've heard it is because it is a merit employment job site not a guaranteed union gig. Not to mention the contrast of bathroom cleanliness. At 8 am or noon tomorrow n Saturday or closing their bathrooms are always spotless. The pharmacy hands down is the best, ever. Shelby, Tim and Ashley are amazing. For produce and other products you can always special order and they have a website for additional bulk and specialty products. My only complaint is they stop carrying items sometimes I like because they don't sell enough but if I want they will order. The self checkout always works! I don't think I have to ever call a staff member. I drive past other closer shops just to go to hannaford. I'm glad...
Read moreWOW!!! This store has gone way downhill. Where is the management? I’ve never seen such a messy, filthy, poorly managed Hannaford like this before. Entrance is a mess, litter everywhere where the carts are kept. The front produce display is a unsanitary mess. It is completely covered in huge swarms of fruit flies. I picked up a bag of grapes and a massive cloud of fruit flies flew up. All the blackberries is the front display are covered in massive amounts of mold, they look like they’ve been on the shelves for weeks. Other moldy food in the produce dept as well. Numerous meats are visibly rotting and are gray and brown on the shelves. The shelves throughout the store are a mess with expired food, some items are months expired. Meat cases are revoltingly filthy with spills of dried up meat juices and chicken juice on the shelves throughout. The doors on the center meat cases are so filthy with grime and fingerprints, you can’t even see through the glass to what’s in the freezers. Cheese case is dirty. Leaking freezers. Shelves are a mess. The hot food was dried out. Carts piled up in the parking lot. Only 2 registers open, long lines. Store is understaffed, some employees are overworked, while others stand around. Extremely poorly managed. Managers nowhere to be seen. This has been every visit to this store in the last 6 months. Each time it gets worse and worse. This store has clear health code violations and yet nothing is fixed. This store needs new...
Read morePoor service in the Produce Dept. I stopped by two weeks ago to buy some items in their bulk food area. They were out. I dropped by a week later (last Wednesday) and the items still were not in. I was told that they would be ordered and would arrive on Sunday (three days ago). This after being shuffled from Produce, to Bakery, to Customer Service. I stopped by on Sunday and the items STILL were not in. I was again told they'd be ordered and would be in on Tuesday. (I had one Produce Assoc. tell me that he only worked part time and didn't know anything about it. Well, I went to Hannaford today and the items STILL are not in. These are items that they have bins for: Organic Pumpkin Seeds and Crystalized Ginger. Poor, poor, management. And I emailed Hannaford Corporate Offices abuot this on Sunday and received no reply. I guess they don't care about customer satisfaction. I suppose they think that if they're the only game in town? Well, a new TOPS supermarket just opened in Rhinebeck. If they're anything like the TOPS in western New York, Hannaford will become...
