T.J. Maxx — Local services in Town of Smithtown

The store lay out for this location is okay and there is staff in the store. The store is busy and pricing is okay and fair. Got a great deal on some cleaning towels.

My reason for the 3 stars is the checkout. Slower cashiers than The BJs in Commack. A long line and four cashiers should move fast. It took at least 20 minutes to checkout. Once we finally had a cashier...the cashier somehow rang us up for an item we did not even have. It was a small item but I think it could have been intentional (possibly) because the last customer who used the same cashier had an issue with their receipt and it took some time to fix whatever the issue was.

We were charge for something we did not buy and then when I pointed It out to the cashier, she acted all confused. Even when she checked the receipt she could no find the item we were incorrectly rang up for, even though we only bought four items. I had to point it out to her and finally the manager intervened after I got annoyed how we were rang up for something not even at the counter.

The manager fixed it and I got a refund, but this took at least five extra minutes. Pretty sure this is not the first time this cashier did that. Either way she is not the only cashier with issues, other customers seemed to be having problems with other cashiers with prices and discounts. Oh well, not coming back to this location, the Commack location on Lakefield road...

I come to this store at least 2-5 times a week. I make a purchase every time. Recently had a few returns and was given such a hard time by Loretta. She treated me very rudely, accused me of using the products when I said I never did. She embarrassed me in front of the customers behind me. I never felt so uncomfortable in a store before. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll come back to this location. I am a loyal customer, for over 10+ years.

I’d also like to note, Loretta told me she couldn’t accept used bath/body or cosmetic items due to a health code. It’s unsanitary. I agree. BUT if anyone who worked in this store would walk over to the beauty section and open up the jars of body butter, body scrubs, lip butters, especially the Aminnah products, they are all unable to be purchased due to the fact customers are sticking their fingers in everything and breaking the seals. Store still sells them at full price, and after 5-6 months finally moves them to clearance… so it’s ok to sell used products, leave them on the shelves for months, then finally realize they are tampered with so continue to sell them for cheaper? I’m sure that is against code so I’ll be filing a complaint with the health department.

I have been coming to this store for many years and out of all those years meeting and knowing most of the managers, I would say by far that this new manager that they brought in who I believe goes by the name of Bill is so distasteful. While waiting in a very long line, I overheard him degrading his staff behind the counter when I walked up to check out I asked the lovely lady who that man was as I pointed and she responded our manager Bill. For being a manager, you would think that that comes with responsibility and manners for not only the public, but his staff as well. There will be a complaint made, and I truly hope that this company does the...
