I had HIGH hopes and expectations for this salon because of the glowing reviews, but unfortunately I was kind of let down. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous place with great people and a very clean atmosphere, but once I got home it looked like a was wearing a wig… I’m really glad I wasn’t going out that night! I went in with my blonde hair to get my “cold season color” of “dark reddish brown”. I provided many pictures as well as pictures of when I had it previously at another salon. I was shown swatches to choose from based off my photos and explained that I want it “dark reddish brown”, not brunette, not red or purple, and very natural looking.
I left the salon with dark purple hair.
When I got home I noticed how purple it was in the sunlight and woof! I don’t hate the color, but it is not what I wanted. I also noticed the unacceptable amount of dye still on my skin/scalp. That’s what made it look so much like a wig. Didn’t look natural at all. I had to rub off as much as I could with a paper towel since I had work that evening and it was insane how much was still on my skin. My hair and scalp were NOT properly washed. This was very disappointing. And I have had this EXACT treatment done before at other salons as well as done myself, and it has never been left like this. It is not normal.
When I washed my hair two days later, the water was purple there was so much unwashed dye left. And my pillowcase is now stained with hair dye.
To top it all off, I was quoted $145 for “roots to ends color”. On their site it’s listed as $115-$145. No big deal, I had a major color change. I was expecting to pay around $200 or so with gratuity. IT WAS $280!!!!!!!!! PLUS GRATUITY. I SPENT OVER $300!!!!!!!!!!!
I was completely unaware of all of the extra fees and charges. They charged me $100 for a hair trim that took about 4 minutes. Not a full cut. No layers. Just a quick trim of dead ends.
They also charged for wash and style??? If you’re dying my hair, don’t you HAVE to wash it?? Every salon I’ve been to in the past, wash and blow dry were part of the price. I would’ve walked out of there with wet hair and trimmed my own hair if I knew it was going to cost an extra $135. Completely outrageous. Charged for things I NEVER asked for.
Quite frankly, my hair looked way better when I did it myself with a box of Garnier Fructis.
For as much as I spent at this place, my hair should be PERFECT and ready to go out on the town, but unfortunately I had to fix it myself.
At least I have a good base to use my box dye next time. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.
Photos attached were taken two days after the dye job
Paper towel photos taken after TWO separate sessions of me scrubbing dye off my skin. I took pictures the third time when I decided to leave a review. Hairline photos taken AFTER I had already scrubbed much excess dye off my scalp with much remaining. Photos of before and after I took a shower and properly cleaned my scalp to get all...
Read moreI’ve been a solid dark brown/black haired person my whole life. Anytime I’ve attempted to get highlights from other upscale salons I left looking striped/brassy and feeling defeated. These disappointing results were usually achieved within two hours at most but I didn’t realize until I met Jamie at Hudson Grey that for someone like me, someone who has been dying my roots for twenty plus years that the process will take a lot more time to get a great result while maintaining the integrity of my hair. She explained this to me at an appointment I made after my first amazing haircut with her in October. While cutting my hair in her sophisticated, trendy and beautifully appointed two story space right in the center of a town worthy of a day trip, we talked about color and I told her that I wanted something different. I wanted a big change. She told me before she tries to lighten my hair she needed to do a color test where she would lift a small section in the back to make sure she could do it safely without ruining my hair . A few weeks later she spent over an hour with me doing just this. She put one little section in the back in foil with lifting solution (?) and checked it every five minutes. She determined that she could safely lift color from my hair and sent me on my way. The salon did not charge me for this appointment which blew me away. I made an appointment for a month later and was told to expect to be there all day and yesterday was the day. I arrived at 12pm and I didn’t leave the salon until 6:30 pm. Is this because I was left in a corner and forgotten about? Absolutely not. I wasn’t left alone for more than ten minutes at a time the whole time. Jamie applied the lifter and between her and her assistant they constantly checked each individual foil and at times added heat to certain areas, took foils off and continued to ask me if I was comfortable or needed anything. I was served coffee and then Prosecco in the later afternoon. Such a fun touch ! I took in the environment there and it’s a very busy and happy place. The stylists are all so pleasant and talented. It was a joy to watch other people come and go looking beautiful. Finally it was time for Jamie to do her magic -which is the only word I can come up with other than art. After two deep conditioning treatments were applied Jamie applied a golden chocolate brown toner and did something else with a paintbrush. Without getting technical this and the specific way she placed the foils after teasing some hair from each section were to ensure that where my base color ends and my new color began would be undetectable. Finally it was time to get blown out and styled (after another great haircut ). I have never left a salon feeling the way I felt yesterday. I have the hair I have always dreamed about having, admired on other people and never thought it would be possible on me because it was tried with terrible results. Now that I’ve had this experience with Jamie and her lovely assistants I know that nobody who has colored my hair before ever took the time or probably didn’t have the knowledge to do it properly. Jamie is a true hair artist and I’m sure there is nothing she can’t do to make anyones hair...
Read moreMy recent visit at Hudson Grey Salon was unpleasant to say the least. I thought I did enough research about the salon and stylist before I booked my appointment, but unfortunately I did not get the results I wanted.
I made an appointment with Miranda as she had great reviews, and I felt confident she could achieve what I expected. During the consultation, I showed her a photo of the color I wanted on my hair as I was getting it highlighted. I explained my hair journey and what I wanted very clearly, we decided that she was going to do a bright blonde, partial highlight with a root smudge, but blended enough at the root to make it look more natural. The photo I showed her and the conversation that we had obviously meant nothing to her. As she finished my hair and began to blow dry it, I noticed that the color was very warm and brassy, along with my roots still showing. I questioned her about the darkness at my roots and she responded with “it will lighten up over time.” After paying over $350, I got home and was very disappointed. My hair had stripes in it rather than highlights and it looked as if my hair wasn’t complete or it had grown out. Not exactly what I was expecting after walking out of a salon.
The next day I spoke to the manager, Tina, and she was kind enough to hear me out. She apologized and booked me another appointment with Jamie, the owner. During my appointment with Jamie, she did not seem genuine, it was clear that my situation was a bother. As she was toning my hair she asked me if I wanted to have my hair blow dried because it was not included in the service. That question was very unprofessional and irritating as she was implying that I would have to pay an additional fee to have my hair blow dried when the appointment was to correct their mistakes, not charge me more money. I responded that I wanted to see the color of my hair meaning I wanted it blow dried and she responded that she would “rough dry it.”
My hair is still not what I wanted in any way as there are several colors throughout it, none of which are actually blonde. But it looks better in comparison to what I received from the initial appointment. My scalp has definitely endured damage and trauma from this experience as my head/hair feels very sore and dry. I definitely do not recommend this salon as the stylists are unqualified in numerous ways. Obviously the stylists do whatever they feel like the client should receive rather than listening to them; they don’t have your best...
