Van Cleve was a lifesaver! I had to make a lot of changes to my wedding plans due to COVID-19, and I essentially planned an entirely new wedding in only 3 and a half months. I needed a new wedding dress, and I was very stressed out about how I would find a dress with enough time. I also had a strict budget for my dress because I had already spent so much on my original wedding plans before we made all of our changes for COVID-19. I reached out to seven different wedding dress stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to see if any stores had any sample gowns that I could purchase within time and have altered in time. Out of all of the stores that I contacted, Van Cleve was by far the most understanding and willing to work with me. I had a particular dress in mind, and they happened to have a sample of that dress in my size. Because of my situation, they were willing to sell me the sample for almost half off! I could not believe it. I was able to quickly schedule an appointment to try on the dress. My consultant, Nancy, pulled a few other dresses for me to try on, and she was very mindful of my limited amount of time and my budget. In the end, I loved the dress I had inquired about more than the others. I decided to take a couple of days to decide if I wanted to buy that dress, and Nancy was very understanding about this. She said she would let me know if anyone else wanted to purchase that gown, and thankfully it remained available until I made my decision. I live about an hour away from the store, but I was able to conveniently pay for my dress with my credit card over the phone. I had my dress altered at Van Cleve by one of their seamstresses, Vera. She did a fantastic job, and she was able to complete all of the alterations with plenty of time before my wedding. She also gave me recommendations on how to minimize static on my dress and veil. When it came to the big day, my dress fit perfectly, and it looked absolutely gorgeous. I have never felt more beautiful than I did on my wedding day. I have received so many compliments on my wedding dress, and none of it would have been possible if it weren't for the wonderful staff at Van Cleve. My experience with my wedding gown purchase was wonderful. However, I spent ~$1k on alterations (incl. tip- and of note, although the alteration specialist was kind, I felt pressured to leave a tip). Well, the bustle didn't hold up!! Once it was bustled (yes, it was correct)- I did a few spins, and 2/5 buttons flew off!! This was during cocktail hr- so the dress was dragging for pictures, our entrance, etc. We had to delay our first dance as well (I was a walking hazard). Luckily we had his/hers sweats we were going to change into at the end of the evening- but did it hours earlier than anticipated so we could enjoy dancing together (we did our first dance in sweats). I think worth mentioning, that when other (more experienced) people saw the buttons for the bustle (prior to any breakage)- they had their doubts it would hold. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed, especially after the high cost + the reassurances I had received.
However, I do not want the negative experience with alterations to completely overshadow the wonderful experience I had during my dress shopping. Van Cleve was about the 5th place I had been to, trying to find my dress. Caroline was assigned as my wedding stylist- and she was hands down 10/10. My experience with her was top notch. She radiated kindness and professionalism. She was patient, stayed within my budget, listened to me, and helped me. I cannot give these compliments to most of the stylists I had encountered prior to VC. I was looking for someone to help me find a dress style that was flattering on me. I would find that what I'd put on in store often looked very different in pictures when I referenced them later on. Read moreI got engaged on 12/4/21 and booked my wedding for 12/2/23. I knew immediately I wanted to go Dress Shopping in December 2022 with my mom and god mother and make a weekend out of it. I scheduled 4 appointments spread out between 12/2 & 12/3. Van Cleve was NOT one of those appointments. I got the recommendation to try out their shop in august and completely rearranged my weekend and made Van Cleve my first stop.
I was immediately wow-ed when I walked in. The shop itself is beautiful and everyone at the front of the store had a smile on their face. I met with Jennifer who sat me down to get my vision and then she took us over to the gowns. I had a pretty set idea in my head and Jennifer grabbed some gowns that matched those expectations. She then grabbed some that I thought I would hate but I was in for the ride and excited. Something magical happened when I put on the second dress of the day. It was one of the ones I swore I would hate but when I put it on I was in love. I tried on a few more that day but nothing left me breathless. Jennifer suggested trying on my favorite once more and going out to the main room and add a veil and hair accessories. Once those were on I burst into tears when I saw my reflection. If that isn’t a sign I’m not sure what is. Hardest part of that day was forcing myself to go to my remaining 3 appointments. I just wanted to be sure there would be no second thoughts. Jennifer gave me her contact information and I walked out the door. In between other appointments I was texting her with all my questions and she never once made me feel I was a bother. I called the next day to make it official and put my deposit down. I am officially a Van Cleve Bride and I HIGHLY recommend cancelling all other appointments and finding your dress there.
