I went to White Chapel in Troy MI to pay for burial & urn for my mother’s ashes. Something that should have taken less than 30 minutes to complete. Instead I’m there for over 2 hours, because of one smug person. I walk in and receptionist is assisting a customer. After a few minutes he leaves. I walk up to desk. I had spoken on phone with White Chapel twice regarding burial. Receptionist was/is very nice. I explain why I'm there. She had paperwork all ready. She takes my payments & shows me urns to choose from. All this time people are walking in. Receptionist pressed help button after first customer walked in after me. No one from back office comes out for at least 10 minutes. When someone finally comes out, receptionist asks lady if she's answering her help button. Lady replies, "what, I did not even hear it, I'm on the phone". To make a long story short, lady did not help anyone. Without knowing or asking for any background information she tells receptionist that all my funeral home & crematorium paperwork is wrong & must be redone. This skinny lady tells me that my brother must sign, show driver’s license & have it notarized. Then this old smug skinny lady tells me that White Chapel will take care of notary with no charge to me. Like she is doing me a favor. I'm standing there listening to her spew this nonsense to receptionist. I then ask, "what if he does not sign”? With her back turned to me smug lady replies, "there will not be an intermit." Then I ask, "what was 100 dollars my mother paid for to have me put on plot deed"? Smug lady replies, "Oh that's new information". I'm thinking to myself that it would not be new information if you had bothered to turn on a computer. Smug lady then asked to look at my paperwork. Smug lady then said that paperwork looks incomplete, no signatures. Since when do customer copies require signatures? Smug lady calls lady that signed my paperwork. Woman comes out of back & heads straight to computer. A few moments later I hear her whisper to old smug lady that "he is on plot deed & needs no one signature." Then old smug lady caps it off by saying in front of all customers and for their benefit & to cover her own stupidity, "in order to avoid you hassle White Chapel will take care of everything". I really do not like people who act in this manner. This smug, self-righteous, condescending, snobbish, arrogant, sanctimonious person should never interact with anyone who has just lost someone. That is White Chapels fought for hiring...
Read moreMy concern is that the upkeep of the markers is basically nonexistent. Many markers are covered in dirt or sod. My parents and grandparents are buried there, and when I lived in MI I went every spring to cut the sod around their markers and wash the markers. I have moved 1200 miles away, and hadn't been there for several years. We took our friend and came equipped with tools. Several of my family's markers were completely covered. One of them was so covered over that we couldn't find it at first. It just was so sad to think that, besides my family, so many people's markers are covered and unkempt. so instead of standing and reflecting on our loved ones, we spent 3 hours clearing around their grave markers. We took out two bags of sod trimmings. We hauled four jugs of water over to clean off the markers after all that. To be honest, now that I am back home, it breaks my heart every time I think of my parents graves disappearing for lack of care because I am so far away. I did call the cemetery and the person that took my call was very nice, and understanding. She said she would certainly pass my concern along.Update 1 yr later: Now I know my concerns were ignored.... UPDATE ONE YEAR LATER...went back to MI to visit the cemetery. My grandparents and parents markers were completely overgrown to the point that two of the markers were not visible AT ALL. It is absolutely shameful for a cemetery to treat families like this. The flat markers are expensive. The cheapest is several thousand dollars. The price includes "perpetual care and upkeep.". Thats a sad joke. There is no upkeep of markers at all. Do you know how many veterans markers are completely overgrown? Its...
Read moreSo I'm a nurse whom just moved back into the area to help fight MI Covid Crisis. It's been SEVERAL YRS since I had a chance to go visit my grandmother since she passed (I was 4). So I get off of work early for a change and decided to go visit my grandmother. Now mind you it's been yrs SO it took me awhile find the place. I UNFORTUNATELY get there at 10 to 6 and the gate is open, so I figured I had a bit of time. (Usually the grounds keepers stay later anyhow) I'm met shortly after passing throw the gate by a man who is yelling at me to stop (presumably said groundskeeper) so I try and explain the situation BUT ALL I keep getting told is that HE is leaving at 10 after and that if I DON'T want to he locked in I NEED to be GONE!! And to HURRY UP!! It's been close to 20 YRS since I've been able to put flowers in my grandmother's grave and TBH I'm not even quite sure EXACTLY where she is buried. So instead of showing just a BIT of compassion, I'm met with someone yelling at me to HURRY UP. So I turned around, I guess I'll come back whenever time allows me to considering everything going on and I've done nothing but work 80+ hrs a week. What UNCOMPASSIONATE CARE. You guys are a CEMETERY!!! Then went I stopped back and asked for the managers name (all I got was STEVE) I'm met with "WHY do you wanna know for?" I WORK in the LINE OF COMPASSIONATE CARE. If you don't LIKE your JOB!!! LEAVE!!! I'm absolutely APPAULED BY HOW I was treated. So NOW here I sit with tears in my eyes and flowers I may NOT be able to put on my grandmothers grave. ABSOLUTELY...
