Great rooms, great staff, highly recommend! We traveled to the area to make a day of escape rooms and did all four of the current rooms. Vampires, Unicorns, Lost Jewel of the James, and Vanity. We had a great time here and would recommend all of their rooms to both beginners and enthusiasts. Their waiting lounge is also great, especially since we were there most of the afternoon. We wanted to specifically thank Alex O for being a great game master for 3 of our 4 rooms. The hints were just enough to get us moving again and the voice acting for Lost Jewel of the James was top-notch. The buttons were a great touch! --- Vampire: 8 out of 10 Fun room for the 3 of us, but I can imagine the first room would be really cramped with 7. The set decorations were top-notch, we loved the scattered bones and floor covering. We had a lot of fun exploring the rooms and blocking out the unicorns as we completed puzzles. The only issue we ran into was that sometimes we didn’t realize the puzzle doors had opened. Putting a bell on the door or adding an audio clip would be a great addition. We weren’t a huge fan of the counting puzzle, but that was because we were overly paranoid about stuff like “do the pictures count?” --- Unicorn: 9 out of 10 Our favorite room of the day (4 here and 4 with another company). We loved the music, it kept us upbeat and moving. Puzzles were fun and felt unique. The problem we had not noticing the doors opening in Vampires wasn’t as big a deal in here because of the fairy-lights tucked behind each door. The light shining out of the door in the dim room was a great visual clue something had happened. The set design was fantastic. The room decorations were great and the puzzles felt fun and engaging. We had one tech failure towards the end, but Alex spotted it before we realized something was wrong and walked us through fixing it. --- Lost Jewel of the James: 8 out of 10 Wow, this set design was amazing (and our 2nd favorite of the day). The lighting, the decorations, everything. Still a bit mean for the tall guy, but only when going from room to room. Alex made this room come to life with his voice-acting and banter. There was an unexpected reveal at one point that really surprised us, something rare given the number of rooms we’ve done. We got stuck at one point because we tried triggering a puzzle early and assumed that wasn’t the answer later when we needed it, but it only took a quick hint to get us back on track. Our biggest issue were the chalk boards – not sure what happened to them, but we couldn’t easily get them to take the chalk… --- Vanity: 7.5 out of 10 A good room, but not really my flavor. The concept is original and well implemented, but the aging starlet theme didn’t excite me. Some really great room reveals though and great use of technology. We did run into a few problems of our own creation – forgetting to thoroughly search areas, etc. I think our only real complaint was one puzzle that felt overly long and laborious - thematic, but so much sorting...

We all enjoyed our escape room experience here. We went as a group of seven ages 25-40 and picked expert mode because we do this a lot. The room we picked was 'silent space" and was astronaut themed. The room was well decorated and the ambiance was great. The puzzles were well paced and there were just enough of them. Flow was ok. The story kinda fell off towards the end and I'm not exactly sure what the end plot was. Not a huge distraction though as we enjoyed the rest of the game. Biggest concerns of the room was at the very start, there is a 4"-6" barrier you need to step over that goes across the whole walking path on the floor and the room was very dark so I tripped on it. Easy solution - remove it, point it out, or illuminate it. This room does contain obvious stepping up, crawling, and walking on a sloped incline. They do mention crawling as a warning. The customer service was nice and our host was friendly and got us a clue when we asked for it without us waiting, good job!

Fantastic! Loads of fun. We had a group of 9 and they let us squeeze into one of the larger rooms even though it was only made for 8. The entrance is around the back of the shopping center, a little tricky to find. The puzzles were amazing - good mix of techniques with plenty of hidden doors and they mixed in some pretty cool technology. They let you have hints if you are struggling. We finished with only a few minutes to spare. Incredible group event!

I've been to two escape room places before in other cities and this one was BY FAR THE BEST. I found the attention they put into our experience to be beyond my expectations. It was challenging enough to keep us on our toes but not TOO challenging to where we'd be frustrated. The experience kept us on our toes until the very end.

There's another reason our experience here was so unique. We have a kid in special ed who is very sensitive in social environments. For this reason, we had to cancel our initial appointment because our kid had a meltdown and couldn't bring himself to leave the house that day. Escape Room RVA were so gracious in letting us reschedule. Not only that, the owner emailed me DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS of each of the rooms and worked with me to make sure they'd be ok for our family. I was so touched that she put in all that extra time to make sure the experience was enjoyable for our kid. She told me they can even customize rooms if there are elements too scary for kids.

When we got there, all the employees were they personable and interactive, and they were GREAT with kids. The kids can even get drinks and ice cream sandwiches while they are waiting to go in there. If kids aren't easily scared and are ok with a little bit of creepy stuff (which seems to be in these days), this place was like being inside a videogame. I would have LOVED it as a teen. We were engaged the whole time, got clues when we needed them, and ALMOST completed the most difficult room they have. We will be back for sure. I'd love to throw a birthday party there.

The most important thing was that it was a great bonding time for my husband, my two stepkids, and me. It was perfect for a kid like ours who struggles to get out of the house and do things. Most activities don't engage him but he loved it so much--we can't wait to...

Experience was OK.

This was my 4th different Escape/Break Out Room location. Cool lobby and refreshments. Although, it was crowded due to the 15 min staggering between rooms (as opposed to 30).

The 15 mins between groups meant we started 10 mins late. Which was annoying since we're literally sitting outside the door of our room as the previous group failed and we had to move to ensure we didn't overhear clues/solutions.

The space overall wasn't great. 30 mins into the game I couldn't hear my group members because a larger group was right outside our door talking. In addition, a gap in the door caused a 5 min delay because the light looked like a clue.

My group did the Black Box room and most, if not all, of the group had a frustrating experience. Not much of a story. I will admit it was a tough room but it was primarily due to how fractured the room felt. When leaving the room, most of us were still unsure what "clue" led to which "solution." Maybe it was by design but it lowered the enjoyment factor.

An additional issue, albiet an innocent one, was the initial guidance we were given before we started. The guidance caused a misunderstanding and derailed the group 10-15 mins. At the end, due to the limitations of the space, we weren't really given clear solutions to what we missed. Other companies will walk you through everything regardless of success or failure. Didn't happen here.

Lastly, this company felt like it was more about getting customers through rather than focusing on the experience. The key example for me is every place I have been to provides one "game master" dedicated to introducing, watching and explaining your room - this one does...
