I went in and turned in our application to have our husky boarded over the weekend. However I had to go to the vet a renew his vaccinations, because they wouldn’t accept the ones that the shelter provided, because of how it was formatted and they didn’t have an expropriation for the vaccination. Yet his three vaccines were fine for a whole year before he needed his next round. They gave the date when they were administered. 1/4/2022. It’s now 6/28/2022 he shouldn’t need a booster until January of 2023. However they still wouldn’t accept them. However I still didn’t mind and I booked an appointment at our vet to have all new vaccines done, they couldn’t fit me in for another 3 weeks. In which I communicated to the office lady. She told me she would give me a call back later that day and let me know. A few hours later she gave me a call saying that works fine and that we would do his introduction at 12 pm the following day and he would be booked for 4th of July weekend. Everything was set and I had zero issues until I went in to confirm my appointment and drop off his vaccination records a few hours after our vet visit. When I went in the front desk lady had no clue what I was talking about she told me they didn’t have any other introductions for the rest of the week and were booked for the 4 th of July, however she could try to squeeze me in if someone cancels and do his introduction at that moment so I dropped my husky off and waited a for a call. First off the lady that had called was very rude over the phone she stated my dog would not be a good fit due to his recall and had continued on about how he was a bad dog a needed more training. So I immediately went and picked him up and not to even be greeted by anyone just came out with my dog and continued on about how I need to be a better dog owner and so on. Afterwards my dog was terrified and freaked out to even get in the car from that visit and he loves car rides and his people ultimately any people and he was completely terrified which is unlike him. Needless to say they are very disorganized, have very poor communication skills, as well as they have no clue about dog training or how to break up a dog fight. My dog has been going to happy hounds since we got him and the only reason I considered going here is because happy hounds were booked out for the weekend. He had never had a single issue over there and loves daycare. This is a very poor establishment and have very poor customer service. I wouldn’t recommend or will I ever be going back here for that reason. I will continue at...
Read moreMy pups are 10 months old and haven't gotten much socialization due to the pandemic and family illness. We took them in and their first part day they were terrified. Staff didn't force them to do anything, just tried to coax them to take treats or let them be petted. Second time for Woody, he was still scared and wouldn't leave his kennel. Second time for Meelo, he took a couple treats from a staff member, let her pet him, and even got in her lap. Here's hoping for Tadashi. I love that the staff are willing to have them keep coming so they learn there are other safe places and safe people outside of family. This makes me feel better that they'll be adjusted and well taken care of when I have to board them for a few days at the end of the year.
Update. My pups have now been going 3 days a week for several weeks. Meelo is making good progress with socializing and feeling safe at daycare. At home he even warmed up to my mom when she came to visit and got in her lap instead of constantly barking at her. Tadashi is making progress, although slower. Woody is having a harder time with socializing, but the staff are so patient with him and don't force him to do anything.
2nd Update: I boarded my pups for one week while most of my family was visiting for the holidays. I brought them home while my daughter and 3 grandchildren were still here. So, so, so happy!! My pups were almost perfect angels. A Box of Barks Resort & Daycare has been wonderful helping them socialize with staff and other dogs and my family has reaped the benefits. Thank...
Read moreThis is a top-notch facility. The staff are so dedicated and cheerful and clearly love their jobs. New plus: A Box of Barks has recently made daycare more flexible and affordable than it already was. If your dog's already approved for the group-social play, then you can use the day camp services on weekdays without a prior reservation. They also have some new discounts and packages. Bonus: if your dog is shy or doesn't do well in a group they have space & staff to accommodate that as well.
I like that they do more than just supervise your dog. The staff help the dogs "learn manners" -- for instance working on group sits, or waiting politely at the door. Our dogs come back from daycare mentally as well as physically exercised, which is awesome. It's a stimulus-rich environment that we owners can rarely provide on our own just at home.
We've been taking our two dogs here for about nine months, usually twice a week for daycare and sometimes for overnight boarding. Their groomers are excellent (be sure to ask for the "exit bath/nails" when you've had them boarded there). So glad this place exists here...
