Giovanny's Hair Salon & Spa — Local services in Union City

Please be careful at this place! I went for hair coloring and the person Giovanni assigned let the hair color fall in my eye. She panicked and used a towel and her hand to put water. A day later I ended up in Engelwood Hospital for 4 days I have proof. I called Giovanni from the Hospital and he pretended to sound concerned. The Hospital said I Had a super bacteria in my eye because whatever they used their hand or the towel was dirty. They tested me for MRSA, I had a catscan, they gave many antibiotics. They were afraid it would spread to my cornea. I did not sue Giovanni at first I have insurance once I received all the bills totaling 7,000 for the balance I called him asked him to work something out he refused it took months for him to give insurance information. Instead he said how was he sure it happened at his salon. Blame the victim. One of his employees say he does not wash the towels he hangs them in the back having a laundromat across the street. I will be filing a formal complaint with the cosmetology board in Newark. I doubt the women who was doing my hair has a license. I tried to be patient and nice and never posted or complained but I have bills totaling 7,000 dollars and he does not care. Initially I wasn’t asking for the full amount half would had been okay with me. I should have done what other people do and sued him for thousands of dollars and lie but I’m not that kind of person. I had a wonderful experience yesterday. My sister got a perm, and I got a hair cut and blow dry. The person who did my hair was amazing, he asked what I wanted and also suggested cuts that would look good. (I didn’t ask for his name but he was tall and had glasses on) If I had a picture of the result, jaws would drop with how amazing it looked. As for my sister I was not there the entire process but the result of her hair was amazing. Giovanny suggested a hair cut for my sister and I agreed due to lack of form or volume. ( She had straight hair and no hair cut so with a perm it looked dull) Two people worked on her, a lady with short hair and glasses did the perm and Giovanny did the hair cut. The lady who did her hair was good but she lacked making sure everything was okay with my sister because the liquid that is used for the perm dripped down her back and face. Around her hairline area is still red from the irritation the liquid caused. Overall, I liked the environment of the salon and the way they look at their work with full smiles. My father and I had a horrible experience with this place. First, we had called prior to make the appointment and were told we had a 7PM appointment. Everything seemed fine until we got there and he stated that he “did not speak with us” and that “a new worker messed up his scheduling” so he would not provide us with service. This was a blatant lie as we had DIRECTLY SPOKEN to Giovanny over the phone and he made the appointment. Next, he proceeds to run into the bathroom after yelling at one of his workers very rudely to break the news to us. He couldn’t even tell us himself! He additionally wouldn’t make the effort to accommodate us as soon as he could and gave us very sporadic alternate times. The tone of his voice was also very rude and bitter.
