I came to NYC area on a whim from Texas, last summer and was on my way back because it was too expensive staying in hotels.I happened to look one last time and found this place on Craigslist and it looked like a good deal, however I was skeptical I didn't want to get caught up in some type of scam or something. I saw some negative reviews but I was desperate.I hesitantly called the number listed expecting some rude old man to answer because that is what I had been experiencing mostly since I got here. To my surprise a soft friendly voice answered and said his name was Kevin and he patiently answered all of my questions and I felt at ease and made a reservation.
So I went and was even more surprised as the rooms and the property were very clean. I stayed a total of about 4 months. The first room I had at the 3307 location was very small but eventually I got used to it. I also stayed at the 29th street location and I liked it a WHOLE lot better. It was bigger, nicer and more "guest friendly" in my opinion. I only shared a bathroom once for about a week at the 29th Street location and the bathrooms were usually always clean and available. At both locations the cleaning crew was on it like clockwork.
I only had a couple of minor issues but they took care of them ASAP. These are not rooms at the Hilton, but they are a basic place to stay- clean, affordable and safe. The staff is superb in customer service. Kevin and the lady running 29th Street (forgot her name)are awesome. Its a great family friendly location in walking distance to banks shopping and grocery stores and It's a short 10 minute ride to NYC and buses come very frequently.
I have stayed at expensive hotels in Manhattan that had dirty tubs, rude staff and smelled like the sheets hadn't been changed so name brand doesn't matter. The only reason I Ieft is because I didn't want to keep moving back and forth and I didn't want to have to share a bathroom while I wait for a room with a bathroom to open up. I'm from Texas, we don't share bathrooms like that :)
Now God has blessed me to get my own apartment in Jersey and I am happy. I thank God for SHEFAH HOTEL, because I am convinced that it wouldn't be so if I wasn't able to stay there for a while, while I found a job and got on my feet a little bit. Hope this helps someone. Thanks and...
Read moreWe stayed at the 29th street location. This is a cash only hotel - and you will be asked to pay in full when you check in. The manager, Lucia, was helpful and answered all of our questions. The location is perfect if you want to visit Manhattan and don't want to pay the overly inflated Manhattan hotel pricing. While there is plenty of parking, it can be hard to find a good spot (watch out for the Tuesday/Thursday street sweeping). They will loan you a parking pass for a refundable $50 deposit. We stayed in the suite, which is room #8 on the 1st floor. The room was clean except for a few errant pubic hairs in the tub and on the floor (this can be avoided if the housekeepers pay a little more attention). The room has a queen sized bed and a futon. I slept on the futon, which only had a blanket and fitted sheet (no top sheet). It seemed clean but how would I know for sure when it the blanket was last laundered? It was comfy enough if you are OK with a futon, which I am. The bed was another story. The boxspring was broken and the mattress was extremely uneven. This desperately needs to be replaced by the proprietor. The A/C and wifi worked well, the TV not so much. The neighborhood appeared safe but I wouldn't walk on the street alone at night. On Saturday night someone in the neighborhood was having a party, but it was done by 10pm. The other guests at SheFah during our stay were quiet, although the microwave was right outside the door to #8 so we heard it every time someone used it. The front stoop has three steps and the first is a doozy - one of my companions has trouble with stairs and had issues. I don't have any, but even so stepping up or down to the sidewalk was jarring. There were a few food options within walking distance, including a locally owned bodega/grocery, fast food and a diner. There is a small shuttle into Manhattan which costs $3.00 per person and runs every few minutes - you can pay cash and the driver can make change. Pick-up is on the next block in front of the Post Office. The return trip is $3.50 and through the city bus system (123/region 2), and you need to purchase tickets in advance. It drops off further away, but still within an easy walking distance....
Read moreThis branch hotel of She-Fah is very noisy. People hang out in front of building talking on cell phones or to each other day and night. People are in hallway constantly day and night or going in out of building slamming front door, some people have been smoking pot outside building. The manager is only there up to 3:30PM, even though sign on front door says 4PM. The TVs there have bad reception and few channels, no cable TV, but they have WIFI. The pictures shown have microwave and refrigerator, Not true. You have a refrigerator only that freezes all your food whether its in freezer part or not. There is a shared microwave in hallway which is used 24 hours a day. At times there is no hot water for shower. The bed frames are not the right size for the mattresses and the fall apart causing mattress to fall on floor. Plus the mattresses slant causing blankets to slide off of bed. Plus the sheets are not the right size. There are to small. There is nobody there after hours so if you forget your key you are out of luck till a person enters or exits building. And if you require maintenance after hours you are also out of luck. But you will have to wait till next business day and if next day is a Sunday or Holiday you are also out of luck. And maintenance man is an idiot and it takes him two or three visits before problem is fixed. At times they rent rooms to 3 or more people some them have babies that cry into night, children that run in hallways and noisey company to late at night. The Price for room weekly averages from 260.00 to 300.00 a week depending on room It is like a hospital you can only have people in between 5pm and up to 9pm, they claim if they catch a visitor in your room after 9pm there will charge you 17.00. And if you sneak somebody in for the night they will charge u 50.00. There is a eight week stay limit after the eight week you must leave.... If you see this sign that is posted in hallway by microwave. Dont let this sign...
