I purchased a groupon for the Southampton Spa as an anniversary gift for my boyfriend and I. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE! I paid almost $200 for a spa day for two (supposedly a $430 value) on groupon which included up to 20 minutes in a private oxygen steam sauna ($65 value per person), one 40-minute hydrotherapy tub session ($55 value per person) and one 30-minute massage (up to $60 value per person). I thought it would be a great value, but my boyfriend and I were very disappointed. To start out this place reeked of chlorine. As soon as we got out of the car (not even in the building yet) you could smell it and the front desk looked more like a "Cash for Gold" pawn shop than a spa. The owner rushed us through a "tour" of the facility and made comments to my boyfriend that made me feel uncomfortable and I am far from prude. The place was basically empty when we arrived for our appointment (there was one other person there) so my boyfriend and I were looking forward to some one on one time. We were herded back and forth across the pool area as to "keep our appointments on schedule" (although there were no other appointments while we were there or on our way out). What really put me off of this place was how we were treated, almost as though we were not wanted there. My boyfriend asked if he could get a drink quickly before we started our treatments and the woman shuffling us around told him to just grab something. A second later the owner comes running back accusing my boyfriend of stealing a bottle of water and telling him that he is not allowed to help himself, he has to pay for the drinks, and that he has him on camera! Excuse me? We obviously paid the $2 for the water but for him to even accuse my boyfriend of stealing was absolutely insulting. We paid $200 to be there and the owner gets aggressive over a bottle of water. Despite the miserable start my boyfriend and I continued on with our treatments. I don't think this place has had a good cleaning since it opened. The towels were all stained and falling apart. I wouldn't even put one of their robes on. I'm not a clean freak or OCD neat, but when it comes to spas, where people sweat and soak and rub their bodies all over towels and tables, there has to be some disinfecting. At least buy some new towels and robes. The hydrotherapy tub was cold, it had a weird gritty film on the bottom (and no it wasn't supposed to be there like a slip guard), and I dread to think that the tub probably hasn't been drained regularly. The steam sauna also had some gunk smashed in crevices and seams where I could see. What really made me cringe was that my boyfriend and I did a swap between these two services and nothing was sanitized or cleaned, before or after. The steam sauna was just wiped down with the sweaty towel my boyfriend had just been laying on. Finally my boyfriend and I headed to separate rooms for the massage. The tables were covered with printed flannel sheets, like the kind you would put on your bed around christmas time. I thought this was a spa? The massage was nothing to talk about, it was average and it was honestly too difficult to relax in that tacky place. After the massage I headed to the steam sauna and my boyfriend met me in there. I usually love saunas, but this one had an off putting smell. As soon as you walked in it smelled of that old dank basement odor. After that I just wanted to shower and get out of there. The handful of people who were in the pool area by this time were uninviting, it felt as though they were all friends/family and we were interrupting their get together. My boyfriend took a quick dip in the pool but we quickly headed for the locker rooms to change. In the locker room I hopped in the shower to rinse off quickly. They provided "shampoo" in the shower, but I'm certain it was an antibacterial hand soap, it made my hair feel gross as it dried. Needless to say we will never go back there. I left with a migraine and just wanted to go home and take a real shower so I could finally relax with...
Read moreLiving in the city, we always head here when we're in need of a primo place to chillax and enjoy some quality pool, steam and sauna time without any effort on our part - all we have to do is grab our swimsuits and we're ready for a day of aaaaaaaahhhhh at the southamptom spaaaaaaaa ;)
And, if you want to give some eastern european/russian cuisine a try, their on-site restaurant has a great menu of tasty nibbles and eats to choose from - always freshly prepared and def worth the extra calories (the kebobs and dumplings have become personal favorites, and yes, if you need fries with that, they are made to order and crispy good!)...plus they have plenty of tables to enjoy your meal(S) around the pool AND (best part) you can BYOB anything from bubbles to brew to sip while you relax!
There are very clean changing rooms (with shampoo/body wash dispensers in each individual shower) as well as spa/massage services to get those kinks out, so overall its just a great place to unwind for a few hours and its really an easy ride out on 95 to the burbs to get there so go, enjoy and get ur feet wet...literally!
Plus, the gentleman who works the front desk is awesome (just check in and check out ALEX) - he happily walked and talked with us as he showed us around on a tour of the facilites, answered all our questions (and we did have quite a few our first time there!) and made sure we had everything we needed during our visit - so we keep coming back, not only for the spaaaaaa but for his personality and...
Read moreSouthampton Spa is my outlet, my go-to spot for some serious self-care. I'm a regular, visiting the Russian Banya about once a week, and let me tell you, it's like hitting the reset button on my entire being. I leave feeling like a brand-new person, completely revitalized.
Now, if you're in the market for a swanky place with high-end robes and all the pampering you can dream of, look elsewhere. But if you're after an authentic Russian bath experience with top-notch steam, a chance to indulge in a steam ritual, and the satisfaction of having your pores squeaky clean after a good scrub (you need to bring your own scrub, btw) in the hammam – Southampton Spa is the spot. They also have a salt sauna, regular sauna and an arctic room.
This place is impeccably maintained, and the staff is great – everyone is super friendly and working tirelessly to keep things neat and tidy. I'm relieved to see fewer instances of people playing water games in the steam rooms; it used to happen, and it messed up the vibe for everyone. Kudos to the team for handling that, especially Dima, the awesome manager there! He keeps things running smoothly and makes sure everyone's happy. Even when it's crazy busy, he goes the extra mile to keep folks comfy and adds that extra touch to the whole vibe!
If you time it right and swing by during work hours, you might luck out and have the entire place to yourself, giving you that serene feeling people look in the conventional spa.
Highly recommended!
P.S. Don’t forget to bring...
