Fareway Meat and Grocery — Local services in Urbandale

This is a fine grocery story. Their meat counter is legendary. It is a full service counter. If you don't see what you want, they will offer to cut it for you, and cut it right before your eyes. They offer good advice if you tell them what you need. Their thick cut slab bacon is meaty. Their ham steaks are easy to grill or pan fry, and are tender. They make their own ground pork and ground beef. When they cut their steaks they throw the cuttings together to make their ground beef. It is the best ground beef you will ever eat. Their ground pork is made the same way and they offer it deliciously unseasoned. They also offer it seasoned as a mild pork sausage breakfast sausage or as a mild Italian sausage. These meats are amazingly lean. They offer both grass-fed or prime beef steaks and can advise you what is best for the grill. The prices are not higher than anyplace else, but the meats are out...

Excellent place to get steaks and deli meats. They're always super friendly at the meat section and the people working inventory on the floor are always really nice. However the cashiers always seem to be rude and purposely try to be as abrupt as possible. They especially don't like when you bring your own reusable bags and will try and bag it with their own bags even if you ask they don't. Doesn't help that the self checkout will get mad if you don't put the item in one of their bags immediately after scanning, so you have to press "item not bagged" after each scan. Fareway is a very good smaller grocery store. Their best quality I would have to say is there meat department. Everyone who works here in the entire store is always pretty darn friendly. Since they are a smaller grocery store they don't have quite as many choices or options as say Hy-Vee does. And their prices are decent considering everything seems to cost more these days.
