Mr. Greek Grocery & Smoke Shop — Local services in Waco

Update: they replied and expressed how unhappy with the review. That I didn't give a true review.

I gave a review on a restaurant that was not a restaurant. I addressed it with the owners at that time, at the location that I drove out of my way to go to, and was basically blown off.

As I previously stated they knew they were still listed as a restaurant in Google, they didn't seem to care that people use it to find eating locations that don't have food.

I did not come here for a grocery store. I didn't come here to play games on machines. I didn't come here for coffee. I came here for Greek Food as it was listed as a Greek restaurant at the time and they knew.

This place used to have pretty good gyros and other food on the grill. I don't think their grill side is open anymore though. I took a quick stop inside, mostly out of curiosity since I have only eaten their food and never been fully inside.

The store was a little plain and low on stock, but very clean and the prices were generous. Hard to find spices and herbs were noticeably cheaper than Amazon or most online alternatives. I picked up a couple bottles of spices and so far I am impressed with the flavors.

I'd give this a full 5 stars if they had a bit more product on the shelves and the grill still going (I hope it returns one day!) The quality is here, just keep expectations reasonable. You may get a great deal on spices, rice, and other staples so it's definitely worth at least a peek...

I had delicious and authentic tasting baklava, chicken shawarma (shawarma is served on thin tortilla-like pita...like it’s supposed to be) and a lamb gyro (served on the pita you’re used to). The Greek food and prices are better than most in town like D’s and Alpha Omega. Especially good pita and baklava! For the time being, I recommend take-out until the new remodel is finished. Oh and a great selection of middle eastern foods in the small grocery.

Re: other negative reviews. I chatted up the workers and owner and they were super nice. No, it’s not southern culture in there...but having made an effort...everyone was great to me. Personally, I like it when both the food and people are authentic...not some weird Americanized version that tastes and feels like everything else. To each his/her...
