Thurber's Jewelers — Local services in Wadsworth

Used to really like shopping here. Went out of my way to patronize this business on multiple occasions. Went in today looking for a matching bracelet for the chain i purchased here a couple of weeks ago and to pick up a repair. When i walked in a dog came running over and i felt its face on my leg. I looked down and tried to push the dog gently off of me and my baby in her stroller, and the staff (some old guy, who is probably the owner by the way he was acting towards customers) started to scold and attack me as if I was "kicking his dog". And that I was somehow in the wrong. I urge them to check their cameras. Will not be returning.

Update: "you can't fire me, I quit!" The level of dishonesty in the owners response is truely appalling. The employees here have always been great to me in the past, which makes this interaction unfortunate. No one was upset about the chain repair so that is all made up to deflect. I brought it in suggesting i didnt think it could be fixed, but we decided to try anyway. This guy is either struggling with something personal or has developed some kind of egocentrism. When you read these reviews on google remember 2 things. #1: Sometimes customers are just awful. But also remember point #2: There is tremendous financial and reputational incentive for an owner who does something wrong to lie about it.

I was shopping around for a custom made engagement ring online and decided to check out Thurber's as it is a local place and we try to support local as much as possible. When we stopped in we were greeted and welcomed even though they were busy. When it was our turn Tom and his wife were very patient in showing us any and all designs as well as discuss what the latest trends were and answered all our questions without being pushy. It was a relief to talk to a business who asked about style and our needs first and not ask what my budget was right away. The entire process went smooth and Tom kept constant communication during the entire CAD design and manufacturing process, even though he was on vacation out of the country for part of the time. We went through several revisions to the CAD design and the final product turned out amazing. I could not have asked for a more beautiful engagement ring and shopping experience at a reasonable price from a dedicated and professional local business. Thurber's is truly a hidden gem & a life saver. I always assumed I had to go to the bigger box office jewelry stores or the mall to repair jewelry or watches. Nope, not only does Thurber's fix practically anything, they're honest. I was saved a whole bunch of money having watch batteries replaced, the mall said I had no other option but to pay for pressure seal. Tom explained in detail the pressure seal & that it wasn't necessary esp since my warranty was long gone. They could've easily charged me hundreds of dollars to replace 5 watch batteries. Instead they were honest, fast & they educated me. They even fixed a friends cheap little necklace, but to her it had meaning. When she got it back we couldn't figure out where the link was that they replaced! Talk about craftsmanship even on an inexpensive piece of jewelry. I'll for sure be a returning customer esp since they can do custom designs & they proudly support their community...
