I remember my first impression of Sandy's: that it was the most glorious place in all the land. The clothing is new/like-new & there is a wide selection to choose from. There was a small woman with a bob cut who greeted me when I first walked in (though I can't remember her name for sure but I think it is also Sandy). She was very sweet and very helpful but was not at all pushy. While I was in the fitting room trying on two armfuls of clothes, I overheard another woman come in and start talking to the woman who greeted me. The woman sounded incredibly condescending and was railroading everything the first woman said. I though "geesh, I hope that's not the owner." ...Upon checking out and making small talk with the women I discovered that unfortunately it was the owner (Sandy) talking to the other shopkeep (Sandy) like that. It put a really bad taste in my mouth and I contemplated not returning because of it. I spent approximately $285 in the store that day.
After giving it some thought, I decided to give Sandy's a second chance because I reasoned that maybe Sandy was just brash in her delivery (and that the other woman understood that). On this trip, Sandy was the only shopkeep in the store. She was overly 'helpful' by putting extra clothing in my fitting room that she "thought I would like." Everything I tried on looked "great." I ended up spending a couple of hundred dollars this trip (only to get home and realize that several of the items didn't look great and I ended up never wearing them). Before checking out, I used the restroom and must have left the door open slightly. She waited until I was finished paying and walking out of the store to say "would you mind shutting the bathroom door?" Honestly, if I were her, I would have just walked over and shut it myself, but it was her tone that was most off-putting. It felt as though she was reprimanding me like a little school girl ...and then I started thinking about how she talked to the shopkeep the first time I was in.
Like a fool, I kept returning to her store. Not only that, I encouraged other people to do the same by telling them how great her store is. I've shopped there at least four times and have spent hundreds of dollars on each trip. I have brought people with me on two of those trips who have also spent a fair amount. On my last trip, I asked Sandy to take 20% off of one item because I thought it was overpriced. She seemed offended by this and told me she would "think about it" because she "didn't want me to expect it every time." I did not think I was out of line since I reasoned that in a week those same pants probably would have been marked down 20% and me buying them then was a sure sale on top of the huge mound of clothes I was already buying. She decided to give me the 20% I asked for but made it a point to let me know what a concession it was. In my mind I was thinking, "Wow, if someone spent $300 in my store and wanted $5 off every time, I would definitely consider that a win, not a loss." Apparently she didn't though. To add insult to injury, I saw she was advertising an "additional 20% off of purchase" a few days after I went in per her FB post, but made a big deal out of giving me 20% off ONE item.
The last trip was enough to tip the scales for me. Again, she told me that everything I tried on looked great and continued to put extra clothes in my fitting room that I didn't select. My sister tried on something that she looked absolutely hideous in and again Sandy told her how flattering it was on her. It became clear to me that Sandy is about her bottom line, not about shopper's best interest, which is something I've suspected all along. I don't care to patronize people who aren't honest. She would be better off not saying anything at all and let shoppers decide for themselves rather than blow smoke up there a**es so they spend more $.
To be clear, this is an old building full of OTHER women's clothing, so I'm not sure where the condescension comes from. Without them, you wouldn't have a store & without shoppers you wouldn't...

Read moreI love this store! I just visited for the first time, and this is by far the nicest consignment shop I have ever been in. The clothes are so much nicer and better quality than most stores like this. The owner definitely has a sense of style and makes sure everything is in good condition. She has a lot of things on sale and good prices, and I walked out with a bag of items almost all hrand new with tags. She is so nice and also took the time to show me where everything was. 10/10 recommend this store!...
