Bur-Lers Variety Store — Local services in Warren

Take a step back in time to a store frozen in time during the dime store era. For a relatively small store they have an amazingly large and thorough inventory of things for sale. I have purchased everything from nostalgic toys to kitchen items long since discontinued from Walmart or Target. Everything is of course new and fresh from the manufacturer but instead of the imported junk one finds at those larger stores, at Bur-lers you find high quality, budget priced goods, most American made or distributed. The owners have their finger on the pulse of the correct items to stock in an old fashioned store much like the Cracker Barrel store only better. If you want to step into the 1940's or 1950's five and dime style store visit Bur-lers. Here are some of the fascinating things I found on their display counters: Original Levi Blue jeans with the waist and inseam printed on the leather tag on the rear waist. Sizes up to 46 waist and 30-something inseams; balls of crochet cotton in impossible to find colors; cootie game, bagged marbles; bulk candy in bins; diabetic stocking in sizes 13-16, thermal underwear up 5x sizes for under $20. Short sleeve polo style men's shirts for $5.99, High quality cotton sewing fabric $2.99 a yard; buttons for a $1.00 a pack in quantities large enough to make a long sleeve shirt with buttons down the front and on both sleeves. You will also find cast iron bean pots used for hanging over a camp fire, Rit fabric dye,kites and balls of string, vinyl mats to protect enameled cast iron sinks like the Kohler ones sold at Lowes and Home Depot. Rugs, pillows, elegant ladies handkerchiefs, A wide selection of men's hats... I could go on and on but just visit the store and you will be...

Been shopping at this store since I was a little girl. I've watched it transform into the store it is today. I support local businesses and this one has stood its ground throughout the years. It's the ONLY store that has remained in the entire strip mall (that's gotta tell you something). This trip I went to purchase some bird 🐦 seed and suet. I'm trying out two new bird feeders I have. I never owned a bird feeder or had to purchase bird food. They have a huge selection of different types of bird goodies along with some good old fashioned candy you buy by the pound.
