Worst experience ever. Was asked to foster two puppies who were 8 weeks old. After I agreed, they then told me they had medical issues (seizures from neurological issues) and that they had littermate aggression and had to be separated at all times. All after I agreed to take them.
We were told we would have them 2-3 weeks. That turned into 6 months with many requests for help and separating them. They FINALLY found a foster for one of them. They put them both on a medication. Seizures went from every couple of weeks to every 3-5 days. The vet on-site didn’t listen to any of our feedback and made false statements in the write up to the neurologists which manipulated the meds and dosage, increasing his seizures.
They then tried to take the pup from us and we adopted him as we knew the fate that would give him with how they were treating this. At the same time they took his brother from the other foster and sure enough, within a few weeks they put him down.
So disappointed. They never changed meds or spent time evaluating. A pup lost his life in their hands and we saw it coming. We continue to see improvements with the health of the pup we kept and are thankful for his life but are so so sad for the loss of his brothers life and want to warn others of the lack of experience and ethics of the...
Read moreI've volunteered as a foster for both cats and a momma dog and her newborn puppies, and in the office. As a retiree I have time, but I also wouldn't stay if I didn't love what I found there. I've been consistently impressed with how much they care about the animals in their care, the high quality of the medical care they are given, and the support that their foster homes are given. It's a small shelter, but very well run, with people who clearly care very deeply for the animals in their care. Because it's a limited admissions shelter they're able to provide high quality care to kitties with illnesses like diabetes, and to help dogs who may be hard to place initially have every chance of being successfully adopted. Because they're so small they rely heavily on volunteers and I've been touched to see how many caring people in our community are willing to spend hours a week walking dogs and playing with cats, or helping with cleaning and feeding duties. They also run a citizen's food pantry to help with needs for pet food in our community, based on donations from the community and from MudBay. It's a wonderful place with an impact well beyond its small size. If I ever wanted to adopt another pet, this is...
Read moreI can express my gratitude to the beautiful caring souls who work here. After being on the wait-list to surrender 2 tween-age cats were found at the Stevenson fairgrounds. We are outside their jurisdiction so we went on the wait-list. I'm glad we waited. We got some time in with them & really enjoy our time getting to know these kitties. By the time there was an opening we had learned enough about them to make sure they were adoptable. They take really great care of the animals that they provide shelter and care for. All their needs are met with such care, compassion and love. We are also able to check in on them to see how they are till they are adopted out. Another plus is if they're new owners do not want them or can't take care of them anymore. They can be brought back in with open arms. How amazing is that!!? We need a shelter out here in skamania county because there are a ton of strays and abandoned animals out here. Again, I can't express my gratitude and appreciation for this...
