My relationship with Idris at the Meat Spot was born out of friendly banter about food and a need to become friends with a reputable butcher. It is not the lack of familiarity with butchery (which I have a lot of experience with) but the better access to higher quality meats and very specific cuts. This we spoke of, this we laughed about, and a simple friendship started.
He is a very nice individual and truly genuine to all his customers as far as I've observed each time I visit. He learns each one and responds in a unique way to them. With me, it came down to the meats. First time, I simply told him that I wanted to grill chicken and wanted to taste his take on it. He grabbed a pack of chicken leg quarters from the display case and said he'd be right back. About 5 minutes later, I received 6 massive butterflied legs exposing bone and seasoned heavily to be ready for the grill in an hour. He pulled up one of his house cured sausages to go together with the chicken. His smile in the moment sold it. Hours later, I'll just say that his take on it all was worth the visit and more after.
I'm a fan and I really like the ability to order specialty cuts if I called first. I like that I can walk in and ask for something not in the display box that if he has the ingredient, would churn out in an instant (ask for really lean ground lamb and he did that on the spot). I like that he remembers people and treats them in a genuine manner every time. I love that everything is fresh and that the prices are really reasonable.
And I like more than anything else the words, "my friend, where have you been? I was worried."

There was not much on display when I walked in hunting for quality meat, so I was skeptical. I was met by a wonderful Turkish man named Idris, who was kind, informative, helpful, and immediately felt like my local neighborhood butcher that I can come to for all my meaty needs.
There were others there who helped me also, but names have slipped away from me. Everyone was gracious and welcoming. They sent me home with top quality meat and anticipation in looking forward to coming back.
Their lamb was amazing, beef perfect cuts, and, ribeyes deliciously marbled to perfection. I am going back soon but wanted to show my support here first. It's time for some poultry.
Highly recommend this place for quality meats and customer service unparalleled behind bostons butcher counters.
Thank you...
Read moreA pearl hiding in an ocean of Watertown mediocrity. This place is so low key that it would be easy to miss if you didn't know better (you now know better) as the convenience store vibe might confuse you into thinking this is a pre-prepared wrapped sandwich place that sell scratch-offs and cigarettes... but it's so much more - it's a butcher, an Italian-ish deli, a bakery and a gourmet market. The food is incredibly fresh and extremely high quality. The bread is still warm from being fresh baked in the oven. Everything is incredibly good. The prices are reasonable and the staff is unbelievably friendly. If this place was located next to an Al's Cafe downtown, Al's would be out of business. Do not miss this well hidden...
