This location is ok in terms of amenities.
In terms of customer service, I've had a pretty awful experience with the front desk staff. I typically go to the West Alis location, but this location has slightly longer hours most days. I had spoken to my membership specialist at WA about adding my daughter to my membership, which he said was not possible due to her age, but he gave me several guest passes for her so that she could try the gym to see if she'd like to sign up for her own membership. Great. Well, the Friday before Memorial Day, without notice, this location closed early. No sign, no phone message, nothing altering anyone to the change. Myself and numerous other people showed up, sat in the driveway calling and watching others going in and coming out in confusion. It wasn't until several days later that we learned it was due to Memorial Day. Already a sign of pretty poor management.
On Tuesday 6/1 I tried to take my daughter with me to WAC in Tosa. We arrived at around 8ish pm. There were two men working the counter, both bearded. One was shorter and stocky and one was taller. The taller man took my card to scan and when I tried to give him the guest pass, rudely told us she couldn't come in because of a guest policy that said no guests after 745p. It was the first time I had heard this, and there was no email, note on the pass or comment about it from the worker who gave it to me.Mind you I'd paid to bring my daughter as a guest numerous times there and at other WAC locations without issue. I asked for explanation about this policy and he rolled his eyes, shrugged his shoulders like I was giving him a hard time, and said he didn't know and that he didn't make the rules. As a person of color, I'm used to going into places in certain well off areas of the city and being refused service coldly, rudely and without reason, and this guy was giving absolutely no reason. I asked to speak to a manager, wanting clarification on this. He sighs loudly and says "yea, I'm the manager on duty" which shocked me because he didn't have one single ounce of professional quality to even pretend to be. I told him I wanted to understand the reason my daughter was being told she couldn't stay without prior notice, no signage anywhere basically kicking us out- because it was pretty hard to believe we weren't being discriminated against. He said he worked there one day a week and he didn't make the rules. He gave me the card to the general manager and rolled his eyes and had a "go away" type of attitude with us. It was pretty disgusting and humiliating. I couldn't believe I was paying $71 a month for a membership to be treated this way. I had just been telling my daughter how sophisticated and high quality the WAC was compared to other gyms as we were parking our car and this is what we walked in to. Back at West Allis on another day, I asked the supervisor on duty about the incident to which she responded that they receive a lot of complaints about Tosa. She said that Tosa has been having a "guest problem" which is likely code word for Tosa community doesn't like folks of certain backgrounds in the gym and is trying various means of preventing them from visiting, including controlling guest access as well as crass and dehumanizing rudeness to their own members in hopes they feel offended and dehumanized...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI signed up for a membership with the WAC several months back and decided it was not for me after a month. I stopped into the club to cancel and was told the request had been put in. I am not typically the one the handles finances in my relationship but have taken over the duties recently because my partner has started cancer treatment. I noticed a charge from the WAC this week and called to inquire. I spoke with a young man who didnāt give me his name but was cutting me off from the first sentence. He looked my account up and said I was active and had been paying for months. I explained I had been assured it was cancelled and I hadnāt seen the charge before, but hadnāt used the services at all. He cut across me speaking again and was snarky about it being obviously not my fault that I didnāt notice that Iād been charged and that I was obviously at fault. When there was a break in him talking over me I said I did not appreciate this conversation and made it clear Iād like to cancel. He said, over me again, āyou have a great day maāamā. And hung up. Not even upset that they canāt refund the months I was paying for, mostly shocked at the attitude and the unkindness. Someone made an error when they didnāt send the request to cancel and the WAC shouldāve made that right, but they didnāt. I donāt have proof because I went into the club instead of calling and I get that. Irritating that I dropped hundreds of dollars, but I could have seen that if I was looking for it. But for christs sake, You donāt know who youāre talking to on the other end of the phone and what their day or life has been like, and some people are going through hell. Treat people with decent respect. Never will use the WAC again and canāt recommend the customer service in the Business...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been going to this gym for nearly 2 years now, and I only have good things to say about it. The gym is kept clean, there are lots of machines and free weights, and the basketball court is a big plus. Sure, it can get crowded at times, but that's the case in nearly every gym. Some people complain about the price being a bit high, but you get what you pay for. The price really helps weed out people who are just there to go through the motions and don't take fitness seriously, it also forces you to get into the gym so you're not paying for nothing. The WAC offers lots of free classes, the freedom to work out at several locations, and an overall great atmosphere so the price is justified.
In reference to all the negative comments on here. It seems funny that all of the people complaining either got a dose of reality as to how bad their current lifestyles were and just got their pride hurt and decided they were perfect and that the WAC was the issue and not themselves. Also, complaining about not getting a free shirt was the reason you don't like the gym, are you 5 years old? Lastly, Big Jon is a great trainer and very knowledgeable, if he dropped you as a client it was definitely because of your attitude and not about you cutting your sessions down to a half hour. Your lack of dedication and piss poor attitude are the problem and...
