I love the Midwives and the office visits at the OBGYN was always efficient, empathetic, and professional. However, my whole delivery and postpartum experience was a nightmare. Once I let them know I was a nurse I feel they started to neglect me. Or possibly this is how they were all along. I had to have magnesium because of my pre-eclampsia. If you're lucky enough to not have gone through this then I'll let you know it feels as if every organ in your body and your skin is on fire. I had a physician and a nurse offer me ice packs and a fan. I got one ice pack and no fan. That is hours of burning on the inside out. Of course, I am on magnesium, so I am entirely out of it, barely able to think. They saw I had hemorrhoids and told me that a prescription would be sent home for me. Never was. They then wake me up in the middle of the night and expect me to understand or engage in conversation. Let's not forget I was also on my sleeping medication. So, I am on sleeping meds and a muscle relaxer while also in active labor. My partner was in the room, and they did not acknowledge him. After my son was born the pediatrician on rounds told me I'd be updated about his condition. He had to be taken from me because the magnesium caused him to go on cpap and a feeding tube. No one gave me an update for hours. I had to ask my nurse twice to get an update. My spouse went to check on our son and when he went no nurse acknowledged him. They gave him no information. I also had to request my nurse take me to see my son because I had a catheter and magnesium in my system and could not walk. They did not give me updates unless I called them after leaving the hospital. The nurses in the special care unit tried to tell me to go home and get rest because I'll need it. I was so depressed and so disconnected from my son that I did go home and slip into a deeper depression. I don't blame their lack of empathy and poor advice, but it truly did not help. The receptionist at the desk let visitors back to my room without calling even though I had specifically asked that no one be allowed to visit me. I was given discharge medications before I was even discharged. The office visits are great, but the labor and delivery were horrible. Even if this weren't my first child I had been robbed of so much that I shouldn't have been. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO 'MAKE A FUSS' TO...
Read moreThis hospital used to be the absolute best around. Excellent care, attentive caregivers, amazing doctors, great food. But not anymore!!
Going to the ER here now is taking your life into your own hands. More than once I’ve been sent home and told to follow up with my doctor only to have my doctor send me back because I had a dangerous infection. This has happened twice this year!! Each time I have tried to convince the ER nurse practitioners (very rarely do you get to see an actual doctor) that I was not well enough to leave, but they still just send the uncaring nursing staff to discharge me. Then I come back a few days later to go through the several hours long waiting process again and try to convince them again and because I’m sicker this time they finally start treating me.
Find some doctors and staff for the ER that actually care about patients. On several occasions I have listened to conversations (because I’m in the hallway beds!!!) between staff members complaining about having to treat patients and respond to patient needs. That’s supposed to the your job!!!
I have a complicated medical history and unfortunately I have been to this hospital many times over the past 10 years. The care in the ER has progressively gotten worse each time over the past couple years. The hall beds are the absolute worst idea ever. Whoever came up with this idea should be fired!!! Imagine being very sick, feeling your absolute worst, and you have to sit in the hall around a bunch of strangers and employees coming and going for their shifts while you explain to the nurse each detail about why you feel terrible. I hope the person who came up with this idea has to sit in one of these beds when they get very sick.
I don’t know why this hospital that was built to be the gold standard of care from door to door has been allowed to become this horrible experience. Something needs to be done!! Bring back the care that this hospital was known for. Henry Ford Health should be ashamed of what this...
Read moreI have stayed in many different Hospitals in my lifetime. Hands down HFWB has been the best!
I came in with a medical emergency in the middle of the night. ER took me back right away and I didn’t even have to go through triage. After getting my history from the paramedics, I waited in a hallway. I was in a tremendous amount of pain. There I was able to get my anxiety under control. The staff were comforting and gave me a blanket and set up an IV. They gave me sips of water when asked.
Eventually I saw a specialist. After they did some testing, I was moved into a private room…
The first thing I noticed was just how comfortable the bed was. I had remote(s) for TV, nurses, lighting, and blinds. My room was very spacious and I had a beautiful view out my picture window. The housekeeping staff were very friendly.
The food was really good! Patients order from a real menu by calling “room service.” They had many different options (everything from breakfast, entree salads, burgers & sandwiches, build your own pizza, dinner, sides, dessert, and beverages). It was very nice to have choices. Ordering was simplified as the menu had complete diabetic exchanges. They personally “delivered” meals right to my room. When I started out, even my full liquid diet was enjoyable (go figure).
My nurses and nursing assistants were amazing. I really felt as if I were receiving personal attention. Every single person brought their own unique senses of care, kindness, compassion, humor, and skills towards my healing. Nursing was a lot more than a “job” to them, they had a passion for helping people.
The team of physicians and PTs & OTs were divinely guided. They left no stone unturned. I’m so blessed that they uncovered a separate life threatening issue during my care here!!!
All in all, one’s stay at HFWB is what you make it. Treating the hard working people with respect and kindness go a long way. It will come back to you tenfold.
Peace and Good...
