I have been training with Emily at the IVA Voice & Music Studio for almost 3 years, and I cannot recommend her enough! When I listen to recordings of my untrained voice from three years ago, it is very evident that I've made leaps and bounds in progress with Emily. I tried out two other vocal coaches before I met Emily, and they did not compare.

What I love most about her coaching is that it's very personalized and holistic. We work on the fundamentals, of course, but Emily has a keen ear and can always identify specific habits and weaknesses that I personally have. Not only does Emily focus on the technical aspect of the voice, but the performative aspect - something that's been an absolute game changer for me. We've incorporated Alexander Technique into my training, and have really been working on accessing emotions and translating the "story" we are trying to tell through singing. In my experience, many vocal coaches don't focus on this aspect of singing the way Emily does. Emily and the other coaches also have a wide breathe of knowledge; I've studied both musical theatre and singer/songwriter technique with Emily.

If you train with Emily or any of the other coaches at IVA Voice & Music Studio, I guarantee you will have excellent technical training, but you'll go beyond that and learn to communicate...

Before working with Emily, I struggled to translate my classical training into contemporary singing styles. As a member of a collegiate a cappella group that performs mainly R&B and pop music, I felt scared to audition for solos I had predetermined were wrong for me. I’ve taken lessons with Emily for a year and a half now, and she’s not only taught me belting and mix-belt techniques (which are essential for pop styles) but she’s taught me to take the space that I deserve, whether that be by singing boldly or deciding to enter audition rooms I previously would have barred myself from.
