I have been to the West Thumb Information Station in Yellowstone and it ended up being one of my favorite stops in the park. The area sits right on the shore of Yellowstone Lake, giving it a peaceful and open feel. The boardwalk loop is short and easy to follow, but thereās a lot packed into a small space. I especially liked how some of the hot springs and bubbling pools sit right at the edge of the lake⦠a few even stretch into the water, which makes for a unique view you donāt get in other parts of the park.
One of the best parts of this stop was the birdwatching. I saw a stunning mountain bluebird⦠its color was unreal against the gray and tan of the thermal features. There were also ravens, swallows, ducks near the water, and I think I spotted a bald eagle flying in the distance. With the backdrop of steaming geysers and clear blue lake water, the birds added something special to the experience.
The information station itself had clean restrooms and helpful displays. It wasnāt crowded when I went, which made it easy to enjoy at a slower pace. Iād definitely stop again and recommend it to anyone...
