I tend to go past Lowes and Home Depot to get to Ace hardware. As they are hardware stores and not "home improvement stores". They're very knowledgeable and will admit if they don't have the knowledge about what you're working on; but will work to find you the correct answer. I also love the service they give every time I come through the door, someone greets me to help me find what I'm looking for. That type of service is getting harder and harder to find. Granted, I'm paying a little more money for my product most of the time (as ace can't buy quite the bulk that the other stores can), but I find it's really not that much more money and I have found some really great deals as well.
