Since I can’t do 3.5, my official review is 3.5.
I really wanted to give The Retreat 5 stars, but after my first experience, it wasn’t worth 5 stars. I had been hearing wonderful reviews of this salon and decided to make the 40 minute drive to Wiggins (I live in Biloxi) for a simple cut and touch up on my layers. I’ll split this into what I liked and what could use some improvement. I also might have had my expectations set too high, and that could be the case. What I liked: I LOVED how pretty the salon is. The foyer is very professional but still very inviting. I liked the hair product they used in my hair because it made my hair smell and feel wonderful after the fact. I liked how my stylist was conversational (I’ve been in some salons where the stylist doesn’t speak, or she’s primarily speaking to her co-workers). And, I liked how you can build up points to use for other services, I have never been to a salon that does that before, which is really cool! I have a lot of hair and it’s thick. That comment always occurs any time I’ve sat in a salon chair and there’s usually an up charge for the extra time that has to spent on it, but that wasn’t the case here, so major props for that!
What I was disappointed with: the website stated that I would get a shampoo, scalp massage, cut, blow dry, and style and for a really good price! However, there was a decent amount of time spent on my shampoo, but I didn’t get that scalp massage that I had been looking forward to. When I told the stylist what I wanted, which was just to take three inches off and touch up my layers, she kind of tried to steer me away from that (My hair before the cut was almost half way down my back). Most of the time I was in the chair, my back was turned to the mirror, so I couldn’t see what she was doing, not because I wanted to nit-pick, but because I like to see what’s going on with my hair. When she blow dried my hair, the underside was left damp (the salon was empty, if it had been busy I would completely understand), and when she styled my hair, she just started curling it with a flat iron. My personal preference is curls with a curling iron because I like the way it looks more. But, I couldn’t tell what she was doing because my back was turned to the mirror. Furthermore, she only curled the top portion of my hair, not the underside (Again, if it had been busy I would understand, but I was the only one in there), and I left the salon with part of my hair still damp.
All in all, the experience wasn’t the worst I’ve had, but I left kind of disappointed. If I choose to return to The Retreat given that I live 40 minutes away, I will be trying a...
Read moreThis man is absolutely AMAZING!!! I met Clint recently at an endurance ride. I was a bit skeptical about getting a massage for a couple reasons. 1- I’d never had one before and more importantly 2- I was 5 weeks post op from a massive Rotator Cuff shoulder surgery. After talking to him a bit about my limitations he gave me the confidence I needed to give it a try. I had no idea what to expect when I laid down on his table. What I did know is that my biceps and surrounding muscles had been screaming for weeks from being bound up and restricted in a sling. This man went to work on me and immediately I started feeling relief. I literally felt my muscles relax and loosen. It felt so good! He was gentle but had a firm controlling way with his hands that just allowed me to lay there and fully relax and trust his every move. And very easy to talk to as well. I wish I lived closer because I would definitely become a regular client of his if I could. Heck, I might just drive 14 hours every year to see him at the event in the future. He’s well worth it! Thank you Clint, I very much enjoyed my time with you and definitely felt much better afterwards. My only regret. I waited to see him til 10pm. I wished I’d have seen him earlier in the day and then would have been able to come back later as well. Thank...
Read moreOh world, let me count the ways this place is amazing.
I was very nervous to get a massage. I haven't had one in years and years, but I injured myself at work and was having trouble doing my job, so I called The Retreat, where Tiffany answered. She was so nice and accomodating that I decided to go through with it. I look a little freaky. I am heavily tattooed and kind of an oddball, so sometimes folks are a little standoffish (fair enough), but everyone at The Retreat didn't even blink. They were as nice to me as they were to the church ladies who were getting their hair done (looked great by the way!) I saved the best for last. Clint is incredible. I was hurting so much, but I couldn't exactly locate what was hurting me. Clint was patient and knowledgable. He did a full assessment and then worked out my neck and shoulders so that I could actually drop my right shoulder. The tingling in my hand went away. He was also funny and personable and explained everything he was doing.
I can't believe that I have access to this quality of service in Wiggins. If you look at their prices and compare them to Hattiesburg or New Orleans, you'll see that you are getting a...
