Mariposa Market — Local services in Willits

I have always made an effort to support this local, small business that prioritizes organic and local goods over the chain grocery stores in town. Unfortunately the last few years, the high prices and dwindling quality at Mariposa have made it hard for myself and many locals to continue shopping there.

The selection of organic produce and meats is nice for a small town like Willits, but it has unfortunately been all too common to see moldy/spoiled fruit left on the shelves, and meat and dairy past expiration. A lot of the perishable items are not fresh and sit on the shelves for a long time before being bought, which for how pricy it is, is unfortunate.

I have had multiple instances of items being labeled as a sale item on the shelf, only to have it ring up at the counter for 2-3x the expected price because the item was mislabeled. I’ve also received attitude for returning clearly spoiled items that were purchased less than 24 hours prior with a receipt in hand.

At least twice I have had employees mention in conversation during check out the fact that they cannot afford to shop at Mariposa even with their employee discount, which is just sad.

I was reluctant to post this review, as I appreciate and have shopped at Mariposa for many years. The reality is that many of Mariposa’s loyal customers will not be able to continue supporting the store at this rate though. I hope they can find a balance to continue serving the local community and taking care of their employees with a fair living wage...

Thank you for your response however I'm not looking for a replacement I have spoken with the management already and they simply get up set about any feed back that's non complimentary. Yellow leaves and stems do not belong in a quality salad leafy greens do. It's been an ongoing problem that creates other problems which requires unnecessary solutions for unnecessary problems. Just stop putting stems and cut off waste which requires substantially more energy than it gives. This is like getting stems in a jar of cannabis from high quality...

I love this place! If you love organic produce and products I recommend going here. They have lots of organic and eco products. They also have a café where they make the nicest sandwiches/wraps where you can choose yourself every ingredient. They use organic and fresh ingredients.
