Barrow County Animal Control — Local services in Winder

We got sent to this place after being referred to by another animal shelter place because they weren’t able to take my dog in because he was from barrow county and not Gwinnett county. We made sure that the people there would still be open and waiting for us because the other place called them in advance to let them know we were. We get there and we were greeted by two rude and unprofessional people. We only went there because we were told they could help but instead of telling us they weren’t able to and then guiding us to somewhere that could, she automatically told us that our dog was gonna need to be euthanized. Mind you she/they didn’t run any tests or anything before saying that about an injured dog. She didn’t even lift the blanket up to see the problem before telling us our dog “probably” is internally bleeding, and “probably” has a fractured rib. And when we said we wanted to get him help she even said that it was gonna cost up to a couple grand to get him help. Trying to make that change our mind about helping him before euthanizing him. The most unprofessional and rude people I have ever met. If they couldn’t help or didn’t specialize in stuff like emergencies etc, she could’ve just said that and left it at that. She was even trying to argue/ prove a point that wasn’t even important to the matter that my dog was in pain. I get it our emotions were high but we weren’t yelling or giving them a hard time, we just confused and scared and worried for our dog. Don’t go here if you want to help your pet or if you want to be told that you should euthanize your dog before even getting him looked...

After the death of my husky due to Improper breeding(had many illnesses) I decided I wanted to adopt. I spent almost 3 months searching for my next best friend. Animals shelters are a sad place, and I went to many during my search. Barrow county was by far the cleanest!!!! Every shelter the dogs poop and pee in their cages! When you have so many animals you have to keep up with, its hard to clean each cage many times a day! Maybe instead of making bad reviews about them sitting in their pee and poop and not going out for a lot of play time how about you go and volunteer to help OR simply understand how hard it is to care for one when they have many!!!! I went to barrow county animal shelter 2 times during my search, a stray came in when I went the first time who was still there my second time and remembered me. I took him out to play and he was very very hyper, but I had to remember he is hyper because he just got to go outside for the first time in a day or so. So please keep this in mind while searching, give them the time to settle down!! I adopted him and he is a lover that lays all day(I take him on 2 long walks a day). But every one else apart from Mathew snickerd stuff under there breath saying stuff that where mean and making faces like a 5 year old making a tantrum about us not hurrying up! If you work at a place and you know people are there to adopt you know its gonna take a wile for them to choose. So many cats in need of a home we needed to choose wisely and dont even get me started with dogs. I feel so bad about the dogs such harsh loud nasty conditions smells bad and poor dogs it takes long for the enclosures to be cleaned I saw bunches of poo every where one of the dogs even looked depressed! 5 star review for mathew 3 star review for barrow county animal shelter! So ANNOYING kept on telling us to hurry and that we had to pay already to make a choise. could not think in the meet and great room with out some one busting in saying "are you done yet!!??" It was barley 3:00 geez they close like at 5 not like i was gonna take 10 hr!!
