Rude staff! Most of the staff are always looking for things to complain about, I been given snide remarks many times, I Been told I need meetings to address certain topics when all I’m trying to do is Work out ! Makes for an uncomfortable and hostile environment for no reason . Been told two different things by different staff about basic policies and procedures. This place has potential but some of the staff and their processes need to change . The unprofessionalism here is unreal, I never seen a gym operate like this before . This place is like high school , very clicky and if someone doesn’t like U for whatever reason they try to make your experience bad here . I see other reviews that share my same concerns. who ever looks over these reviews should re look at their staff approach to people who just want to go to the gym and relax ! Also the child watch is so /so. My oldest son isn’t very well liked by staff in there and gets kicked out within minutes of starting and this has happened too many times to count yet I’m supposed to pay an extra fee for a service we can’t even use. I been to other child watches before and they never complained once , so it’s this particular gym . A staff named John brown is Rude and demanded on more than 1 occasion in order for my son to go back to child watch I need to meet with him first in person even against my comfort ! Mean while There’s nothing that can’t be addressed by phone or email. before John brown came into the picture sending my child to child watch was never like this . Again , makes for a very hostile , stressful environment! Sad because the gym is supposed to be a place u go to destress not cause u stress! The processes and certain staff in place make this gym not even worth it. I don’t want to be contacted by a staff who works here again , I’m a member not an employee! no one helps or changes anyways just looks for ways to benefit themselves . I wrote plenty of details in this review . Do...
Read moreI started to come to this branch for 2 months already, and here are my initial thoughts:
PROS: Unlimited access to classes New equipment spin bikes just came in Never had issues with parking, although it is always teetering on being full towards the evening Staff has been helpful Prices are fair, if you attend couple of group classes a week Lots of people in the gym (if you are a socialite, this might be a good thing)
CONS: Locker rooms can be more clean Lots of people on equipment and crowded at times (if you are introvert, this can get overwhelming). Price starts to not be worth it, if you don't attend a couple of group classes a week.
VERDICT: For the price and the amount of times I go for group classes, going to the Y is worth it for me. The place can get nutty at times, but if you just go straight to the locker room and to the group class, it isn't that bad.
The lockers do feel pretty dirty and the pools have been closed down because of it being dirty. I haven't tried the pool yet (and don't intend to!), so your mileage may vary.
Coming here isn't some luxury gym (nor should it be), but for the price and ease of parking, helpful staff, and unlimited classes, I think this is worth it.
TIPS: You can sign-up for 1 week FREE trial to test the waters. You can try any classes and see if it fits. If you do decide to signup as a member, they waive the joining fee! If you have a spouse, they can be added to your plan and it would be a discounted price. Make sure to download their app. It is very easy to use and you can signup for classes in seconds. Depending on your insurance and financial situation, you can get discounted (or free!) membership. Make sure to ask for that in the front desk. They will guide you through...
Read moreThey offer great rates for seniors!! There is a cold pool and a warm pool. Swim time is limited in summer because of camps. ALWAYS Lots of long hair strands in the pool and women's shower floor. There is no requirement for people to put up their hair. They don't use the nets throughout the day to clear the hair. Maybe too Kid friendly! When I go to swim laps, kids play in the lap lanes. The parents, nor the lifeguards tell them to go to the family swim side. I told the lifeguard about the kids and they told me that I could tell the kids to move. The kids argued with me 3 times and stayed in the lap anyway. How is this my job? The Shrewsbury YMCA has a sign by their pool that clearly states the swimming rules. Maybe Greendale YMCA could put a sign at the Alden pool. The kids don't go over in the cold pool. The Shrewsbury YMCA is also immaculate. There were people cleaning the women's locker room while I was there. I have to give the Greendale YMCA commendations because they cleaned the shower curtains or brought new ones right after I posted my review about the black mold. However, they didn't see them all right next to the shower curtain. I guess I should have showed a picture of that too. On the upside I had a really nice calm swim on a Saturday...
