Illinois Department of Human Services — Local services in Worth Township

This place has the worst staff in blue island location. The security are even worse. I had an 11:00 appointment. (I asked for a phone interview anyway but didn't get it) I get there at 10 and wait hours and hours. No type of system to show where you are on the "list" of being called. No staff has any answers just rude remarks and a guy at the desk says we have 200 appointments today sit down and be patient like that's my fault yall have 200 lol to see. What's the point of the appointments if they are never even close to being kept. At 3:00 I stil havent been called and there is still a crowd. I say I have to run to pick up my daughter and live about 20 minutes away and was told ok I have time. I even told the armed security the Male with no hair and he said the doors will stil be unlock until about 450. I return at 4:00 to be told if your name wasnt on the "list" you have to leave. What list I put my appointment letter in the tray that says appointment letters and and Notified more than one staff I had no one else to pick up my kids and I was assured I was ok to leave. Somehow a list was made of who was left in the lobby during the hour I was out getting my kids. Than I wait in line to ask the staff at the desk if I can be seen or get another appointment right then and there and security with two dread braids walks over says they stopped taking clients at 1:00. I said to him i was there at 3:00 just had to run to get kids and he tells me i left the building therefore i can't be seen today and would have to return when i get a new appointment letter. The whole time the other security I asked before leaving was sitting right ne,t to us. I say he should have told me that before I left not make up rules along the way. I applied in Sept got an appointment last week of October and now you tell me I have to wait another month to get an appointment for services for my children and I. I wanted to raise hell until I got a better answer from someone but after sitting in there 5 hours no food no clue how many people were in front of me and just rushed back after getting my daughters I was too tired and annoyed so my daughters and i left. I see why people curse them out all day. Seems the people that act a fool get their way. Something needs to be done. Get more offices only take walk ins on certain days or just stick to the damn appointment time. Way too overcrowded and disrespectful here. They dont have a care on the world if you get the assistance or not here. Sad....I'll be calling Springfield to see what I can do about an appointment or a new office to go too. I will not be looked down upon by these people who are probably a check away from needing the assistance themselves. HIRE PROFFESSIONAL...

THE ABSOLUTELY LAZIEST, MOST RUDE HUMAN BEINGS I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN A PLACE WHERE ONE GOES FOR PUBLIC ASSISTANCE. THAT BEING NOTED THAT EVERYONE THERE IS THERE DUE TO SOME TYPE OF HARDSHIP & HENCE NEEDS SOME TYPE OF EITHER FINANCIAL OR ASSISTANCE WITH FOOD AND/OR SHELTER. WHY WOULD THE EMPLOYEES BE SOO RUDE & TREAT THE CLIENTS AS THOUGH WE ARE BOTHERING THEM! GET ANOTHER JOB! NO ONE IS FORCING THEM TO WORK THERE! THEY HAVE FREE WILL AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY NEED TO FIRE HALF THE STAFF & I’LL WORK THERE! THEN SHE CAN BE ON THE OTHER END OF THE STICK & SEE HOW THEY WOULD LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE LESS THAN A HUMAN. ALTHOUGH BECAUSE OF MY HEART I STILL COULDN’T TREAT THEM ANY LESS THAN I WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED OR HANDLED WHEN HAVING TO SWALLOW OUR PRIDE & DIVULGED ALL OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION JUST TO GET THE CRUMBS THEY THROW US TO SURVIVE, BECAUSE IDK HOW ANYONE IS LIVING OFF WHAT THEY GIVE YOU. HELL WITH A JOB HALF OF US ARE BELOW OR ON THE POVERTY LINE ECONOMICALLY! SO THEY NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHY PEOPLE ARE THERE & THAT ITS DAMN SURE NOT BECAUSE WE WANT TO BE NO MORE THAN THEY WANTED TO GET UP AND GO TO WORK. they’re usually efficient and helpful in person but when ur on the phone, they don’t answer. it can be ringing for hours and they won’t pickup but when u go in person, they ain’t got nobody there! so why aren’t they picking up calls? i got to travel all the way here to ask a dang question??

edit: called them last week and waited 1.5 hours to set up an interview appointment. My interview appt was today at 11am but they didn’t call the number on my appointment notice (their fault). I waited and never received a call so I called back and waited 1.5hrs AGAIN and the lady told me that she told her manager that they called the wrong number. She told me that they will give me a call back TODAY for my interview. Waited all day for the call and never received it. This isn’t the first time this place told me i’d get a call back just so they can end the phone call with me and not deal with it. I have a newborn, I cant just come to the DHS whenever i want so i wait hours on the phone just for you guys to hang up on me or lie to me that someone will get back to me. Now i need to call again and wait hours to set up another interview even though i’m not at fault for messing up the first one! So unnecessarily frustrating...
