I am a court reporter and have been working as an official in Texas for a little over 14 years. I recently purchased a laptop from Martel Electronics, as I was in need of a new computer and I've been happy with the digital recorders I've purchased from them in the past. I have used a MacBook Pro for the majority of my career but decided to look into laptops specifically made for court reporters this time around and am so glad I did and that I went with Martel. The customer service has been great from the beginning. I called and spoke to Jason when considering the purchase and placed the order while on the phone with him. After the computer arrived, he logged into my old laptop and the new one and transferred everything over. The part of getting a new computer that I dread is having to transfer everything, so having Jason do that for me was so nice! He downloaded other programs that I use, as well. Do they have one employee named Jason who sells you a product- it’s not cheap- and tells you he’ll help you with it I waited over an hour on the phone to speak to him and when he finally called me he rushed through the kit set up in -5 minutes and said he was late for lunch?? The reason I bought the 200 kit from him is he assured me he would help me with any technical problems or issue. Well I e tried to get through to him with a quick question because I had to slightly change something I think he didn’t set up right and he emailed me back that I can try a YouTube video on my own to see if it works. This is the customer care and support? I wouldn’t purchase another thing from them. Also, I’m going to co tact other reporters on forum to alert them to this company. I also heard they don’t give refunds and try to avoid accepting returns. The reason I’m giving two stars is I’m a nice person and he set it up initially after making me wait well over an hour. Read moreI'm a court reporter (depositions.) I recently bought a laptop from Martel. While I'm pretty proficient with my software, there are certain things I have no clue about. This is where Martel (Jason) comes in. My function keys stopped working -- in a job...of course -- and I was able to restart everything and they worked. Temporarily. Happened again, then again.
I finally realized maybe it wasn't something "I" did. Sure enough, there was some very complicated issue with my hard drive (I think?) and within minutes, Jason had me up and running.
I was first apprehensive about the laptop package I purchased, which includes tech support. Well, no more. I could not live without it! It's such a relief in such a stress-driven career to have someone in my back pocket that can remotely take care of any issues I may have. An invaluable tool, especially when something is happening on a job. You CSRs know what I mean.
