I was sad when Mr. Q's burned down, but eventually I decided to try going to Roller R Way (york location). Initially, while it wasn't the same as Mr. Q's, it was still an enjoyable experience. Good time with friends, fun drinks at the snack bar (the strawberry lemonade boba was awesome), and the ocassional prize at the arcade portion. For context, I mostly went on Sunday afternoons (the family skate time) and once or twice on a Friday night (more teenage crowd). This most recent time has me inclined to not go back again. When my friend and I went to pay to get in, the guy at the counter asked if we had ever come on a Saturday night before. To be fair, I'm not the most street smart person, but I just assumed it was small talk/being friendly. Now I see that it was not. The vibe was so different, even compared to a Friday night (I would understand the difference between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon of course). At one point, I saw a group of kids get yelled at for their language and told to stop or get out, but aside from that, I saw no other semblance of control. The place was a total zoo. The rink was overly crowded, and the skaters were more reckless than I had ever seen before. I fell at one point, which was my own fault. Later on, two girls slammed into me at the same time, knocked me over, and caused my glasses to fall a bit away from me. One of them didn't even acknowlege what had happened. I was terrified that my glasses would get run over and destroyed with how little attention people were paying to their surroundings. I understand "skate at your own risk" and all of that. Things are bound to happen, that's the nature of it. But there is a certain point when it is beyond that. For instance, many people have headphones on, or are playing on their phones while skating. It's not legal to wear headphones/earbuds while driving, because of how it hinders awareness, so should that be acceptable while skating? I wouldn't mind if say someone got overstimulated from the music and wore earplugs, but the headphone usage is beyond that sort of thing. Just because the evening skates tend to be mostly teens (speaking as a teen myself) shouldn't mean all decency can get thrown out the window. It's fine if the vibe differs a bit on different days, but there should be some basic rules that stay consistent. The rink should be a safe and respectful...
Read moreCompletely disgusted. Family and I came for what was initially told to us as a “adult night” prior from roll r way staff during a previous skate. Teens skating with no consideration for others around them and clipping other skaters with no regard for safety concerns. One skater had knocked my partner to the ground and she had been favoring her left arm after. Staff that skates are inattentive and non caring to other skaters and how they skate. Single staff member noticed what had happened and asked my partner if she was okay. Proceeded to skate off away after short interaction. Had to get ice from the snack bar which staff had acted like it was such a bother to ask them for. Understandably so as management had a lone teenager behind snack bar to attend to a busy crowd. Multiple instances of staff negligence as well and inattentiveness by manager to see what was happening on his skate floor. We were there from 8pm-10pm. Upon leaving due to extreme frustration and pain from my partners arm, I had spoken to manager. Had approached him in a calm manner, waited for him to get off of his phone call. Explained what had happened and that someone got hurt and requested a refund of $19 to which he had said “oh yeah nah i don’t do refunds you should have said something when it happened” seems like the standard response back from him as he doesn’t seem like he could care about the wellness of his customers. They shortened the size of the rink to be able to put in a “laser tag” room which caused more congestion within the rink. I had told him what was happening with the other skaters and that my partner had been knocked down twice. We are adults and we can take pain but the inconsideration and negligence of safety concerns is disgusting within this establishment. HERE’S THE RESULT: my partner has a fractured elbow!! We have now been in and out of urgent care and the hospital for the past two days since. We will be considering our options after this. One thing for certain is that we will NEVER be coming back to this roller rink again. I will sure to share this with my multi media platforms as to make sure no one else has to expose themselves to such an irresponsibly and inconsiderately ran establishment like we had...
Read moreTook my son here for his first time roller skating for Sunday family day skate. First of all the line to get into the place was so long because they were so slow getting people in. Waited almost 40 minutes, let me add we were standing in the STREET half the time. We finally get into the place we get up to pay, the guy was rude, they don't even have a cash register, he was handling the cash from a pile of bills in his hand. We pay, got our skates on, went to get my son one of the the things with wheels that helps you stand up when your learning, but wait YOU HAVE YO PAY $5 EACH! Are you kidding me? After already paying to get in and for skates?! Woah wait wait wait, AND THEY HAD NONE LEFT! ZERO. By that point my son was crying cause he wanted to skate but couldn't do it without it help him. Literally sat right down on the floor took our skates off and returned them. Since our time was RUINED and wasted the money I offered my son to play an arcade game. I went to the front, the rude guy told me there's a quarter machine, so I go to get quarters and THE MACHINE WAS BROKE!!!!! I am livid at this point, went back to the rude guy and told him that the machine is broke and HE IGNORED US! By far the worst experience I've ever had anywhere. The place is a joke, it's ran by a family and KIDS. Would never ever recommend this place to...
