I have some 40 year old jewelry I want to sell so I looked online in Zephyrhills to see what jewelry stores there were. I found Valentino’s and Boyd’s. Having never heard of or been to either I was up by Walmart so I went to Valentino’s first. A man named Brandon who is a jeweler there tested my 14K gold chain and told me it was brass inside and he wasn’t interested in purchasing it. I wasn’t selling it to him anyway. His price for scrap was $100/ounce less than a place in St Pete and I think that’s why he got irritated and told me my chain was fake. I said then why does it say 14K Italy on it? Brandon said that’s not the kind of clasp you usually see. Wrong.. I knew my chain was genuine. His misinformation could have caused someone to throw their chain away. I then went to Boyd’s and saw Dan and he not only tested my chain with a magnet showing me there isn’t any metal in it he did another test on it to show me after I told him Valentino’s said it was brass and Dan said it’s 14K. He could tell as soon as he looked at it that it was real. Dan said that is the type of clasp used on my kind of chain. He is so knowledgeable about everything to do with jewelry. And he’s honest. And he’s super nice. He also weighed all my jewelry for me, measured the width of my chain, measured my ring for the size and checked all my jewelry for me so I knew for sure it was 14K. And knowing I was going to try to sell this jewelry online he gave me an idea what to sell it for. I asked if he could take some pictures with my iPhone of the chain and he offered to take the photos using their photo box and the photos came out beautiful. He wrote down the math formula on selling gold for scrap. He said to ask places what percentage of spot would they pay. His price to replace the 14K clasp on my chain was $17. Valentino’s wanted $40. I am so appreciative of all Dan did for me that I am doing this review for their jewelry store because it’s the least I can do. Everything he did for me was for zero cost. Where do you find someone today to do all this for you without making a penny? I’d give Boyd’s 10 stars if I could. I recommend them highly for knowledge, friendliness and their cost of repair...
Read moreThis jewelry store sets a standard for ALL others to follow, guaranteed you'll find something very special. The Owner & his Sales Associate treated us as if we were their first customers; myself, wife & 5-y.o. daughter. They made our decision making a total joy & patiently showed us every item of our interests explaining details of their quality mfr. lines. Read moreI am sooooo glad I went to Boyd Jewelers instead of one of the chain stores in a mall! I went to get the clasp fixed on one of my wife's necklaces, but also took in my deceased dad's WWII-era Omega watch (which I had always assumed was counterfeit since he couldn't have afforded a nice watch in the 1940s). I'm extremely impressed not only by how knowledgeable Dan is about all things jewelry (unlike most salespeople in the chain stores), but also because he took the time to explain to me the history behind my dad's watch and the various reasons it is actually authentic (also unlike most jewelers who wouldn't have spent a second longer than the amount of money they could get me to spend that day). In fact, I also appreciate that there was no pressure to buy any new jewelry when I just needed a repair. I now know where my family will be going for all of our jewelry needs. Whether with a jeweler or any other type of business, it's always a huge relief to know that we don't have to just try our luck at random stores with random people who probably won't even be working there next...
