It was our regular spot for Chinese take out in the area until our last order. We got our usual dishes and my husband found a piece of metal (rather large) in his mouth. The wire was rusted and embedded in his food. He is the type to mix his general tso on top of his lo mein to mix the sauces (just his style), so he wasn’t too sure where the metal piece came from. We had also ordered krab rangoon. Obviously, this was quite worrisome as we were not sure if he may have swallowed part of the wire and we were very upset this accident happened in the first place so we called the establishment. Our main concern was the welfare of other patrons and obviously to alert them this happened. We expected for the conversation to end with a profuse apology on their part and a sincere attempt to rectify the issue with a full refund, but the son (?) or gentleman we spoke to was shockingly incredulous of our conversation and doubted that this could ever happen. After a long pause of waiting for him to speak to the manager he told us he could probably only refund part of our order. Though we could have probably escalated this situation verbally, we were very calm and reasonable throughout the conversation until this aforementioned moment. His unwillingness to refund our order and the doubt in his voice made us never want to order from this establishment again. He made it feel like we were lying to get a free meal, so we of course drove all the way back with whatever food we had not eaten and the foreign metal piece as PROOF. When we got there, he was nowhere to be seen, but thankfully someone else had their brain that night. The lady who saw the metal piece knew exactly where it came from and refunded the full order immediately. She offered to make us something else, but the whole order left a foul taste in our mouths.
The negligence on their part of continuing to use a rusted piece of kitchen equipment and the lack of care for the gravity of the situation was beyond disturbing. My husband could have had a perforated bowel or esophageal tear due to the metal wire had he swallowed it. Count yourselves lucky for us not having pursued this. Y’all need a little visit from the...

I rarely leave reviews, but the way Shang Hai in Wesley Chapel handled my order was beyond unacceptable. This is not about the food—it’s about the complete lack of customer service and accountability.
I placed a $70 order via Uber Eats, including multiple platters, spring rolls, and soups. When the Uber Eats driver dropped off my food, she only left the bag with soups—none of our main meals. I tried calling her multiple times, but she refused to answer.
Shortly after, Shang Hai called me back and admitted they made a mistake—they only handed one bag (the soups) to the driver, while the rest of my order was still at the restaurant. They assured me they could either have it sent over within 20-30 minutes or I could pick it up. Since this order was for my parents and my father is handicapped, I politely explained that we couldn’t pick it up and asked them to send it as soon as possible.
45 minutes later, I called back to check the status, and they casually told me they had no way of sending the food and it could ONLY be picked up. No explanation. No update. They had no intention of informing me.
I reminded them of my situation and asked to speak with the owner or manager. He refused to talk to me. Instead, they told me my only option was to take it up with Uber Eats.
Let’s be clear: Shang Hai admitted the mistake. A responsible business would have done the right thing—especially since I live just four miles away. If I were the owner, I would have sent an employee to fix the issue. Instead, they wasted my time and dismissed my concerns with zero effort to make it right.
If you want good customer service, do not order from this place. Mistakes happen, but how you handle them matters. Shang Hai...
Read moreNot having had Chinese food out of an actual Chinese resturant before- I wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered a qt of beef fried rice, and teriyaki chicken. I get home thinking this is going to be more of a pre-supper snack- than supper. I open the qt of rice and holy moly. The container was FULL. I mean full full. I took out a huge scoop and couldn't even notice it was gone. I personally wasn't a fan of the beef in the rice, but the rice itself was very good, and my children and hubby loved all of it. I thought there shoulda been egg in it- but again- i really dont know. There was peas and carrots, and onions. The chicken was fantastic. Perfectly seasoned and cooked thoroughly. Portion sizes were awesome. Food was tasty, service was with a smile. Very happy, and will be testing out more in the near future. The reason for 4* rather than 5, everything is portioned for 4. Chicken comes with 4, as does many dishes. Im a family of 5. In order to allow everyone to try it- i either had to buy 2 orders, or cut some off from the 4 to make it into 5. I did ask if i could purchase just 1, and was told no. They weren't rude- and its not like i could go to the fast food joint and ask to buy 1 chicken nugget- so I cant be that upset about that- but I am a bit disappointed that they dont have any kind of sampler... I dont want to spend $5 on something I may throw away... All in all- worth the prices- nice staff- resturant seems outdated but clean. Will...
