💒 Milan Modern Church | Saint Nicholas of Flüe 🌇
Architect: Ignazio Gardella Architectural Style: Modern Built: 1968 📍The entire sanctuary of the church is elevated on a base, which is used to receive and serve the guests of the parish. The interior is divided into three spaces. The church, designed by Gardella, has a sail-like roof as its fundamental structural element, visible from both the interior and the exterior. 📍The church's distinctive shape is projected onto the city— the entire roof is covered with a material that does not deform with heat and has fine textures. This material is made by mixing tarred copper and rubber sheets. The entire roof is supported by a curved reinforced concrete frame, divided into six structural elements. This design serves as a structural protection and also gives the interior space a sense of rhythm. 📍The outline of the frame resembles the shape of a champagne flute, its lines pushing the central part of the church's sanctuary upwards, with horizontal skylights leading to the end curves of the roof; the side aisles also adopt the same design to capture light. #MilanArchitecture #Church #MilanChurch #ArchitecturalAesthetics #Italy #MilanLife #Milan #ModernArchitectureMilan
