Milan Surroundings | Villa Panza - The Most Beautiful Villa in Italy
[History] Villa Panza is an 18th-century mansion overlooking a stunning European-style garden, located on the Biumo Hill in the town of Varese. It was renovated and expanded by architects Luigi Canonica and Piero Portaluppi in the 19th and 20th centuries. 🏛️✨ Originally, it was not primarily used for residence but served as a venue for Duke Paolo Antonio Menafoglio to host guests and social events. Later, due to mismanagement of the family business, Menafoglio sold the villa to a Milanese noble, Pempeo Litta Visconti Arese, who commissioned Canonica to renovate it, transforming it into a luxurious and dignified residence. It wasn't until Count Ernesto Panza took over and commissioned Antonio to build a greenhouse and a gazebo that the villa became even more complete and harmonious. 🌿🏡 Subsequently, Ernesto Panza's son, Giuseppe Panza, took over the villa. Passionate about contemporary art, particularly American minimalist and conceptual art, he and his wife Giovanna began collecting works by American contemporary artists, later selling about 10% of their collection (around 150 pieces) to major American museums, with the remaining works displayed in the villa for visitors to enjoy. These artworks primarily explore light, color, and space, harmoniously integrating with the ancient rooms, Renaissance furniture, and precious African artifacts in a unique way. After viewing, one can distinctly feel the coherence between the room colors and the artists' works, reflecting Giuseppe Panza's unique color perception. 🎨🌈 [Featured Artists] (Some works exhibited in the villa) David Simpson: An American artist known for his use of interference paints, which contain titanium oxide-coated particles, creating an illusion of metallic texture. 🎨✨ Ettore Spalletti: An Italian artist famous for creating soft blue monochromatic paintings on different surfaces and his innovative use of light. His works have a gentle, candy-like quality. 🍬 Robert W. Irwin: An American installation artist who alters physical, temporal, and perceptual experiences through architectural interventions at specific sites. 🏗️ These artists share common themes in their works.
